That's a bad joke
How is it different than Tesla and the PowerWall business?

Ford has the excess production capacity and need to make money.

I wonder what the issue is with the FCSP. I have that evse and it works fine charging. I do not have the his. I can log into the charger with my phone but the truck won't connect to it as far as bluetooth go's.

I recall the electrician saying he'd never had any luck getting something to work, I guess that's what he was talking about. I was puzzled by that because I was connected to the truck with the app at the time of install. Thought to my self this guys off his rocker, it works, lol. Mystery solved sort of.

Yeah so the main issue with my HIS, has been the handshake. Ford and sunrun asked me to fold seat down, park jammed up against the FCSP, etc. I ask again and again, can we just warranty this FCSP and they tell me no, a software update is on the way. That was 2 and a half years ago. Nothing ever changed.

Very different. Tesla actually develops its own energy products and has a decade plus experience working with various local AHJ's that control and approve residential energy product installations. Tesla didn't start from scratch either. It also acquired Solar City early on to help it get started in the business. Even with all that it's still a challenge for Tesla. Cheaper alternatives are plenty now.

Ford is in for a rude awakening if it intends compete with the PowerWall with its proven lack of willingness to develop in-house expertise in the area and instead rely on third-party vendors for core product development.

I don’t believe they’re going into residential, at least right away. I believe the focus in the short term will be grid scale. I also hear you, Tesla has a great head start as well as the recent competitors that have joined the market in the last 3-5 years. That said, I have no issue with Ford challenging the incumbents. The more investment to their battery portfolio the more likely the Lightning BEV will return.

I understand the sentiment but if they couldn't make it work profitably in a higher margin product category (i.e. vehicles) then moving to a lower margin product category (i.e. battery) doesn't look like a profit maker. It looks more like a desperate move to reduce (but not stop) the losses so they can keep the battery manufacturing alive a little longer.

I’m not sure that grid scale energy is low margin vertical. I’m certainly not an expert but I’ve worked with a few grid scale energy deals in my finance career.

There are booster devices that can boost the bluetooth signals if that is the issue...
but maybe it is the proprietary software that runs the handshaking?

There is a different VxH system that works from Sigenergy:

They got it to work in the video with a Mach-e and then in the comments (I think) said they got it to work with a Lightning as well.

I don’t think the problem is the inverter. I think It’s with the truck’s Bluetooth module.
It's a fundamental design problem. There are wires connecting every component in this system but there are multiple wireless hops used instead. To produce software fixes with the outcome of a reliable product would mean enhancing the firmware of multiple modules in the truck, and the Siemens supplied charger, to communicate using the Ethernet-over-power channel provided by CCS rather than wirelessly at all. It might be possible to avoid having to modify the firmware for the Delta inverter, at least.

Not likely feasible for anyone outside Ford, and not a small project.

I have this PointGuard/SigEnergy V2X system working with my lightning.

Maybe ford will help us install them instead …

I know Patrick and Liv were impressed but the chances of this happening are… zero. THat’s a shame because it seems a really good system.

I’ve had to twist some arms with my FSCP problems. Hopefully I speak to someone next week.

I think I’ll remove my HIS, swap in another inverter and just be stand alone with a home battery next time. I’ll let the lawyer deal with all this other crap.
