Had a scheduled service visit yesterday for the 'Underbody Insulation' recall, the failed 2.3.0 OTA with DTC U3000:41 (checksum error researched by @Livnitup) and a battery issue. I was not impressed with the tech they assigned, he started out doing the Recall and then proceeded to do the APIM update only to have the battery fail half way through the procedure even after he knew there was a battery issue. For 3-1/2 hours he and the service manager tried to get the update working only to report back that after many failed attempts, they did a hardware test of the APIM and it failed and they have to order a new one.

The procedure they used to try and update the APIM was based on a TSB (21-2310) in Oasis which differs from the steps in @iceman77 'ECM Module Programming Guide'. I spoke with a friend who's a retired Ford Master Tech and he stated that if a DTC cannot be cleared (in which case mine couldn't after many tries in ForScan) then most likely the module is bad.

Has anyone run into this and if so, were you able to get past the DTC and update the APIM? If not, would I be able to update other modules or do I need to wait on the new APIM?

Can @Ford Motor Company please chime in?

APIM U3000:41Control Module: General Checksum FailureSets when the APIM detects an internal fault.

  • NOTE: This procedure must be completed using FDRS. Do not clear DTCs until the FDRS procedure has completed.

I cannot see the second image. Lastly, are you saying that it's possible to still do the firmware update with that DTC? I'm not completely sure what your suggesting in your post. Thx

I was just giving you some insight as to what the workshop manual suggests.

THe last image was a video. SO it wouldnt paste.

Typically a u3000 is internal. I do feel a PMI COULD fix it. Iceman had a similar issue with a Door module and I told him to PMI it. It corrected the issue. These codes refer to the internal config.

There are internal hex and checksums that are not part of the as build we see as part of the configuration.

I had this Checksum Failure on my APIM as well, you remember @Jesse-Infotainment ? It was a result of "botched" APIM update, when I pulled the USB stick after "Restart Required" message on Sync screen. Retrying APIM update, or perhaps PMI-ing it, as Jesse suggested would fix this issue. At least it fixed on mine

@iceman77 What is PMI-ing? Does PMI stand for Programming Module Interface and if so, does FDRS provide the instruction? I am not very happy with the service tech that worked on my truck...

Iceman, not to derail, but did you pull the USB (during the dreaded "restart loop") while the truck ignition was on?

You know why I'm asking probably. I removed the USB but after I shut the truck down first. I suffered no issues from the effort.
