Dealers locking away their mannequins/demos

Hi guys, my dealer is not allowing anyone to drive their mannequin, and another said only if you have a reservation with them, your experiences?

2nd makes total sense. Can't order without reservation, why should they let you drive it?

My dealer won't let me test drive it, even though I have an order with them. Pretty irked about it but I didn't raise a stink yet. My build date is 6/20, maybe it's not worth the headache.

They claim it's a service loaner, but I am skeptical.


That being said, I can completely understand not letting people without a reservation drive it -- because you can't sell someone a vehicle that they can't even order.

Ford should just let them sell it. Might as well go to a car show if you are just going to be allowed to look at one. These fools are acting like this thing is a Ford GT smh

Wow that's awesome! If that happens to me, I plan to see if the Mobile xharger works with the plug in I used for my model 3, so I could see if/how it charges. Hope you see how it works for you.

I wouldn't be shocked if that asked for $30k extra.

The dealers that are not allowing the mannequins to be driven probably plan on contracting a sale immediately and then waiting out the six month time limit before that customer takes possession. It sucks because that is not the intended purpose of the mannequin but it is within Ford's rules. Too bad Ford didn't add a mileage minimum to the mannequin requirements.

I don't know who my dealers allowing to drive the demo but offered me to take it for a day or two and then said I could even have it for a week. We will see when he gets it in what he really will allow.

Maybe the dealers allowing you folks to demo them like demo meant back in the olden days are hoping you will hate Lightning and let them have your order when it arrives. Just kiddin'

I wonder if not getting return calls or email from my dealer stems from them not wanting to break the news that their mannequin is locked up behind glass or living at the owner's house. My truck should be blended, shaken, stirred, and all charged up and ready to go at REVC by this time next week.
