This will be my fouth summer doing this each week when I drive from Boston to Maine. Never had an issue.you guys are great! thanks for all the info. i like the idea of using the paint program to leave a message on screen
Yes but PPO allows you to control how long the truck stays on with climate control going -- at least you can set a range floor. It also keeps the truck on so the screen is going for Dog Mode signs.Mine is a 24 so yes I have the option of leaving PPO on with the truck turned off. But since this whole discussion is about creating a Dog Mode, PPO is not the issue, climate control is - which requires the truck to be on.
And reference your last sentence, Climate control is on because the truck is on - doesn't matter if PPO is on or not.
You can enable it after one of the recent OTAs if you have forscan. Will shut off if it's not drawing 100w+ at least every few minutes.
Agreed. That is an option for those who want to use FORScan.See this post and the links within it.
Not to the best of my knowledge. Now it may be different in pre-24 trucks, but the reserve limit on PPO has no bearing on the truck staying on. As far as I know, if you disable the 30 minute timeout, the truck will stay on to battery depletion. And I'm pretty sure the on screen warning when you disable the power down timeout says that (or words to that effect).Yes but PPO allows you to control how long the truck stays on with climate control going -- at least you can set a range floor. It also keeps the truck on so the screen is going for Dog Mode signs.
That may have changed based on one of my recent findings. I am quite different in that I have a totally stand alone aux. 12 volt battery system for powering two-way radio equipment in my truck. That aux. battery system is powered / charged from an AC powered battery charger that is plugged into the rear seat PPO outlet in the cab. Realizing that PPO was staying on with a fairly low load, I did a little testing last night. I plugged one of my "KiloWatt" AC power monitoring boxes inline between the PPO outlet and the IOTA battery charger with the aux battery fully charged. According to the KiloWatt, the battery charger was drawing 29 watts or 62 volt amps (yea, the power factor sucks). The PPO had no other load and did not turn off. This has been observed for at least several weeks (likely longer), but never measured until last night. Will shut off if it's not drawing 100w+ at least every few minutes.
