I've seen this topic come up many times here and in the Mach E forum. I am not sure if I have mentioned this before, but there is a setting in the APIM config called "Comfort Pet" which is disabled from factory. Somebody with FORScan would need to turn this on, look through the touchscreen for a new button and turn it on and thoroughly test what this does before trusting it.

Tried that a while back for giggles and didn't notice any new toggles or anything

You can turn on ProPower Onboard. This automatically replaces the Vehicle Power Down with a minimum battery %SOC that corresponds to the range you set.
Since this thread is all about how to accomplish dog mode, the objective is keeping the vehicle AC or heat on. Has nothing to do with PPO.

Ford should definitely NOT work on implementing a dog mode feature. Absolutely no demand for such a thing.
Don't worry, they're not working on it.

It accomplishes the same thing though. Turning on Pro Power Onboard is another way to disable the auto shutdown timer.

Myself I just do the Settings -> Vehicle routine every time. But people can do whatever works for them of course

I'm ignorant about this option. Can you advise the advantage of going the "ProPower Onboard" route vs. the "Vehicle Power Down" route? Thanks.

When PPO is on, it disables the Vehicle Power Down. You can also monitor the truck using the Ford app to see that the PPO is still engaged.

No. Turning PPO on (with the option to stay on with vehicle off), does not leave the vehicle on. Yes, it leaves the high voltage contactor closed, but that's about it.
Leaving the vehicle on (with the 30 minute time disabled if you need extended time) leaves all vehicle functions on - i.e. climate, radio, lights (if enabled). Climate control is the important one for Dog Mode.

thank you. i did not know about auto off feature. I never leave him in for longer that 5-10 minutes. i will figure how to disable the auto off feature. thanks again
If it's only 10-15 minutes, you can use climate button from the app. It allows you to set climate for up to 2 15 periods.

I know this will be an unpopular opinion - and yes I have dogs and yes I’ve locked the car with the ac running for very very short periods of time (5 mins or less) But NEVER on a hot day.

I do not advocate dogs being left in cars or trucks. Nor do I do the same for kids.
Remember: the truck that many of us complain about software bugs in is a giant computer.

It sometimes does weird stuff

If your dog is part of your family, you might see where I’m going with this.

What year Lightning do you have? Earlier Lightnings require the vehicle to be on during PPO operation. You have to turn off climate control or the HVAC will run continuously the whole time PPO is operating.

Mine is a 24 so yes I have the option of leaving PPO on with the truck turned off. But since this whole discussion is about creating a Dog Mode, PPO is not the issue, climate control is - which requires the truck to be on.
And reference your last sentence, Climate control is on because the truck is on - doesn't matter if PPO is on or not.

Here are the step-by-step instructions for Dog Mode:
  • AC / Heat On: Be sure AC is set to “Auto” and to, say, 73 degrees.
  • Truck On: Leave the Truck Running.
  • Lights to Off: Turn the dial to the left until it’s “off”.
  • Close Mirrors: This is optional.
  • “Power Down” Timer Off: Turn Off the 30 minute “Vehicle Power Down Timer”: Note, if you shut the truck off during this process, you MUST repeat this step. This step is required EVERY time you start the truck.
  • “Settings”
  • “Vehicle”
  • Turn off the first setting, “Vehicle Power Down” – This must be manually toggled to “Off” EVERY time (because when the car is shut off, this immediately “resets” to “Timer On”.)
  • Manual Cardboard Sign: I put a “Dog Mode” sign over the display. And I’ve pasted these instructions to the back of the sign.
  • Open Door: Dash will say, “Truck is Running.” Ignore or press “OK”.
  • Exit: You can take the Remote OR you can leave the Remote in truck.
  • Lock Truck: Lock the truck by simultaneously pressing the “9-0” and “7-8” buttons on the “Keyless Entry Keypad” (on the door jam.) Confirm truck is locked by confirming the traditional door lock “knobs” are down after closing all doors. If the truck double chirps, it is NOT locked.
  • Confirm Running: Confirm the truck is still running. (The dashboard should look like it does when you are driving.)
you guys are great! thanks for all the info. i like the idea of using the paint program to leave a message on screen

You can enable it after one of the recent OTAs if you have forscan. Will shut off if it's not drawing 100w+ at least every few minutes.
