Is this serious?
that was exactly my reaction- “OP- are you SERIOUS?”

honestly I don’t get it. Sure, I am disappointed that Ford canceled the Lightning. I believe it was a short-sighted knee-jerk decision. But it makes absolutely ZERO damn difference regarding how I feel about my Lightning. This is simply the best vehicle I’ve owned, and one of the best vehicles currently on the road. Hopefully there will be an adequate supply of spare parts/battery modules available for 10+ years into the future. By then I will be over 300,000 miles and my truck will have paid for itself 2x over in gas and maintenance savings.

While the Rivian is a super nice truck, I think the Lightning is objectively better in most practical ways. Looks better, more spacious, just as capable if not more so, better dealership support, more accessories available due to commonality with the ICE F-150, nicer interior, nicer software, etc. etc. And honestly it’s got a better track record for reliability than the Rivian too.

If you're the worlds richest man you can afford to let your personal ego go before common/business sense.
To cancel the CT would be the same as admitting you were wrong, and we all know that aint happening.

The best thing they could do is to take the CT platform and put a normal truck body on it, at that point I think their sales would increase quite a lot.
Yes, plus, he and his cohort wanabe oligarchs are envisioning a dystopian society where you'll need bullet-proof glass and an armor-plated cabin to keep the starving masses at bay...

Agree with pretty much everything you said... but this. From everything I have heard is Rivians software and vertical hardware stack is very well regarded and much better than the Lightning

This morning on my way to work, I was stopped at a light and a Rivian pulled up next to me. He looked over and had a stupid grin on his face. Normally I am proud to drive the Mercury Marauder, but the truth be told, I felt a little wave of embarrassment flood over me. Like I was driving a flop of a car. He turned right and I went straight.

Got me thinking, Americans tend to live through their cars. Got money, drive a luxury, off-roader a 4X4, adventurous a sports car...... What are you when you drive a cancelled car??

Ford is not going to bankrupt but Rivian will. So he should feel embarrassed.
It's interesting people say this... once the R2 drops, they're going to be in far better shape.. and the investors are sure showing faith in their AI announcements.

At least they aren't making Ford-style reversals.
