After watching this interview I’m convinced Jim Farley doesn’t get enough credit for how pro-consumer he is and that he puts his money where his mouth is.

I love how he really wants people to love their vehicles. It’s clear he is continuing to build a culture where an American automaker will put the work in and make vehicles people want to enjoy.

Im thankful for the Lightning, it’s such a great vehicle.

I'm not 100% sure it's for the consumer. If they could figure it out quickly, and without affecting brand reputation while charging us a subscription fee; I'm sure they would.

However, as the CEO it's a smart move. Just look at the struggles VW is having. Let your team focus on their specialization, the manufacturing, the building of vehicles and let the software company take care of the software....for now.

Ford had plenty of time to improve things going back to the introduction of Sync over 10 years ago. True that they don't grasp the software development life cycle versus that of a mechanical device - which certainly is Fords strongpoint.

At face value of the video, he handles this snippet well. I remain optimistic that the next gen of EVs by Ford will have better infotainment software and execution (compared to current Lightning/Mach-E).

With that said, the current gen software is just...ok (and launched behind the curve when compared to Tesla/Rivian). Ultra is not an upgrade to current models anyway, so anything he's referring to is a slight OTA path to current units or things to be added to the next-gen.

I've accepted that nothing will improve snappiness/sluggishness in my current stack...but my wishlist: I wish Ford offered upgraded cameras to our gen trucks. I'm not aware if the system allows for better image/resolution, either...so that want may be all for naught.

I would like to see less tech. Less tech will make drivers better drivers, it’ll make vehicles less expensive, and it’ll make vehicles more reliable and longer lasting.

The reason you still see vehicles on the road from the 1960s – 2000s era is because they were almost all mechanical, and so parts can easily be made for them. Who is going to support current software in these new vehicles 10 years from now? 20 years from now?

I would like to see Ford focus on making excellent trucks and cars that the consumer can buy and use for a LONG time before needing to replace it.

Doubt it will be a third party, or re-tech'er. Like for your old water pump, or alternator....
It will become legacy, Old Tech no longer upgraded.

I’m in the middle of a long road trip and just yesterday I said thank you Jim Farley. As a retired couple, traveling this way is a dream. We really spent no more time at the chargers than we would have to fill up with gas, stretch, go to the bathroom and grab a quick bite from the cooler. The Tesla subscription makes it very economical.

Built in planned obsolescence negates that possibility. If they made stuff to last 30 years or more they'd go out of business as no one will buy new when their old still works.

Already stated, but your wish is not the wish of stockholders.... Ford isn't focused, pun intended, on making vehicles last for 20 years, they want you to get a new one every 6 years or less.

And, more tech leads to safer vehicles.

I hear what you're saying, but when I was growing up I remember hearing the old guys talking about how much they've put their truck through and how long they've had it. These domestic companies built their entire reputations upon the longevity of their trucks. In many cases, today's sales are driven by experience with these brands from yesterday. At some point, planned obsolescence will be the thing that causes them to go out of business. People are not going to continue to buy $90k trucks every 5 years.

Ford obsoletes parts at 10 years. When they run out of stock of s certain part, it's aftermarket time.
