Ford NACS Adapter Poor Temperature Control

I had the original Tesla/Ford free adapter that was in the defective serial number list.

While waiting for a replacement I bought an A2Z fast charger adapter. It failed after charging for a few minutes. One of the dc pins extremely hot. A2Z replaced it the same day I called them.

Fords replacement was the modified Lectron which I haven’t tried Yet.

Botton line you need to verify any adapter works before going on a road trip.

I always keep both the OEM Tesla adapter and A2Z Typhoon Pro adapter in the cabin to ensure I have a back up in situations where the adapter gets hot or has issues.

If you need an adapter on the go, you might be able to find a Ford dealership or Rivian service center with a NACS adapter in stock.

Dido. Although my A2Z didn’t fail, but it did get recalled by A2Z. They replaced it with the latest version ‘Pro’.

Lightnings are very susceptible to pin temperates and so are Tesla superchargers - when you have that on both ends it's a recipe for derates. Pre-chill the adapter and you'll have better results.

I have the updated ford and a2z adapters and the ford unit does get noticeably warmer. I keep both in the trick but use the a2z.

If you retrofit to nacs the you need an adapter to ccs. Not much gain

Assuming it was possible, the cost would be huge. Thousands of dollars.

Why would I ever need ccs? I have a Tesla wall charger at home and prefer Tesla charge stations.

My tesla made adapter also derated during the heat of the last few days. Not a huge deal, but I don't think I ever went over 120 kw and it took at least 10 minutes longer to charge to what I needed.
