Hi all, long time lurker/reader, first time poster.
I picked up a used 2022 Lighting Lariat from an out of town dealer yesterday. I test drove it, inspected it carefully, operated everything I could get my hands on before signing the paperwork. Sure enough, while on my first drive away from the dealer an issue cropped up. The frunk started sticking during its powered opening cycle. The truck beeps, I hear the latch mechanism release, it starts up less than an inch and then gives up. I can manually push it further open from there, and I feel a small amount of resistance at first and then it moves pretty freely after that initial resistance. Frunk moves up and down under power or with manual pushing with no binding, obvious misalignment, etc. If I push on the latch mechanism itself towards the passenger side (more "open"), the next attempt to power close works 100% of the time.
I think the frunk latch mechanism is not quite opening sufficiently to clear the latch post. I am wondering if the latch needs some lubrication to help it open fully and consistently.
Has anyone else had this issue? If so, what did you do to solve it?
The Owners Manual posted elsewhere on this site calls for "Lubricate all hood, door and luggage compartment hinges and latches with a light grade oil.", which is a bit generic and vague. Are we talking machine oil like for a sewing machine, WD-40, a wet silicone lube, etc?
I have the right to return the vehicle for 7 days or 150 miles from purchase, but I'm pretty close to the mile limit already just from driving to test it at a couple of chargers today. I'd prefer not to return it, but fix it for many reasons. Their sister Ford dealership in this town won't make time to look at it before I need to head home tomorrow. The selling dealer is happy to look at it but not experienced in working on Fords, possibly not able to access service manuals, etc. I have the option of just heading home without operating it any more and take it to the dealer closest to my home in the future also.
Happy to hear any other suggestions you all may have. Thanks in advance to the brain trust here.
