Hi all, long time lurker/reader, first time poster.

I picked up a used 2022 Lighting Lariat from an out of town dealer yesterday. I test drove it, inspected it carefully, operated everything I could get my hands on before signing the paperwork. Sure enough, while on my first drive away from the dealer an issue cropped up. The frunk started sticking during its powered opening cycle. The truck beeps, I hear the latch mechanism release, it starts up less than an inch and then gives up. I can manually push it further open from there, and I feel a small amount of resistance at first and then it moves pretty freely after that initial resistance. Frunk moves up and down under power or with manual pushing with no binding, obvious misalignment, etc. If I push on the latch mechanism itself towards the passenger side (more "open"), the next attempt to power close works 100% of the time.

I think the frunk latch mechanism is not quite opening sufficiently to clear the latch post. I am wondering if the latch needs some lubrication to help it open fully and consistently.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so, what did you do to solve it?

The Owners Manual posted elsewhere on this site calls for "Lubricate all hood, door and luggage compartment hinges and latches with a light grade oil.", which is a bit generic and vague. Are we talking machine oil like for a sewing machine, WD-40, a wet silicone lube, etc?

I have the right to return the vehicle for 7 days or 150 miles from purchase, but I'm pretty close to the mile limit already just from driving to test it at a couple of chargers today. I'd prefer not to return it, but fix it for many reasons. Their sister Ford dealership in this town won't make time to look at it before I need to head home tomorrow. The selling dealer is happy to look at it but not experienced in working on Fords, possibly not able to access service manuals, etc. I have the option of just heading home without operating it any more and take it to the dealer closest to my home in the future also.

Happy to hear any other suggestions you all may have. Thanks in advance to the brain trust here.

Have you attempted opening it with the button after it gets stuck? I observed the same behavior on my truck last week. I was using the cab button when it happened so I pressed it again and maybe a third time. Anyway, it eventually opened and closed and hasn't glitched since.

There is a way to stop the amount it opens so that it won't hit a low ceiling. I would suspect that is being set inadvertently. It might be worth investigating.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

I misinterpreted the Carfax, it actually has 3 weeks left in the bumper to bumper warranty. So I brought it home, and have an appointment with my home dealer soon.

I quoted them the CSP number from that other thread. Let's see what they say.

Just a follow up, the truck went to the local dealer earlier today.. They tried the 24P24 update but it was still hanging up on the latch. Dealer has ordered physical parts, and I will need a second visit for then to install the replacement parts.

The servicing dealer checked it over....did they connect the truck up to the FDRS computer (laptop) and run the FHCP test? There is also a routine there to 'initialize' the front latch mechanism. If they did all of that and still needed parts then fine...but there's a lot that can be done using the diagnostics system. It might have just needed a simple realignment of the latch itself (mechanical adjustment).

I remember seeing statements to that effect in the tech's comments on the service writer's paperwork. But honestly I read too fast and didn't get a separate copy before I needed to go and get on with the rest of the errands got the day. So I'll call it plausible but not confirmed that they went through those steps.

Just an update to close this out. Dealer was finally able to install the replacement latch hardware part yesterday. Seems to be functioning as designed now.
