I don’t get the impression that it plugs in. Maybe I missed it
This will be just like the Scout. Plug it in to charge the battery. The generator ONLY charges the battery. It does not drive the vehicle. It only charges the battery as it depletes… until you run out of gas. Then you’d better charge and refill. There is absolutely no connection between the drivetrain and the generator.

I have a 73 that is 3 on the tree, though at some point in its life it was moved to the floor. 360 FE big block.
Yes! Had that same 360! Loved that big girl, though she was AWFUL thirsty! :cwl:

I'm seeing a lot of people saying they will buy a Rivian. One thing to note (and a big reason why I went with Ford) is they do not have a 240v outlet in the bed. It's all 120v. I use my truck for a generator as I'm in hurricane land, and my replacement will require this. GM and Cyberfridge are the only ones right now that I'm aware of. I think Scout is promising this, but we need to see it released first.

This is @Ford Motor Company listening to the people…. And thats the problem. I talk to the majority of my friends and and they are really excited about “erev’s” specifically the scout. The problem is people don’t know what they want. A good example is the god forsaken shifter in the lightning (because thats what truck guys want) no we don’t. I have been a truck guy my entire life and never thought i would be an ev guy and i am never going back. I look forward to stopping every 2-3 hours to charge and stretch my legs on a road trip. Imagine driving for 10 hours straight with 700 miles range and going back to a vehicle that has to do oil changes. Thanks but no thanks.

Hmm, interesting.

I sort of see where Ford is coming from. The Lightning, guess we’ll have to call it the Lightning BEV now, is not a great long haul tow rig. But it is excellent at everything else.

I don’t think the EREV is going to go the way most (customers and Ford) think it is going to. You are most likely going to get around 50 miles realistically towing on battery only. After that you are in something worse than ICE only. Worse because, converting chemical energy (gas) into mechanical energy, into electrical energy, rectify and regulate that energy to go onto the HVDC bus, then convert it back to a multiphase output for the motors, and finally back to mechanical energy at the wheels is going to be less efficient then a straight ICE implementation (chemical->mechanical).

If you think it will be a tiny gas sipping genny, it won’t. If you going to pull a long mountain pass with a heavy trailer, whatever power you need by the electric motors, the gas motor has to deliver that plus overhead. Otherwise you are going to join the tractor trailers in the slow lane with your hazards on. (the main reason I believe the EREV Lighting will be lower on power then its BEV older brother)

I’ll keep my BEV Lighting for at least another 4 years. After that… I’ll look for another BEV truck, but if none appeal to me, I’ll go back to ICE. No EREV. The numbers don’t add up.

We love our 22 Lightning and the only drawback has been towing range/capacity. We had to buy a 23 F150 Ecoboost with Max Tow package to tow our travel trailer. It's been great, even if most people say we should have a F250. So if "locomotive-like" is in that range, we'd sell both current trucks and get the new EREV truck.

This is my second Lightning, and after over 30+ Ford Trucks, it is light years above any Ford truck I’ve owned in ride, fit and finish, technology, speed, and pleasure to drive. My last 2023 F150 STX was the biggest POS I ever owned. I was buying another brand when I realized my 2022 Lightning was the best I owned until that point. I only needed an extended range.
I was seriously looking for a Bronco, but I’m betting they’ll dump that platform soon, too, so I’ll keep my Scout reservation.

Excited to hear details of possible lease extensions or renegotiating of terms. I only went 24 months. Need to extend longer after really enjoying the Lighting.

Massive step in the wrong direction for the average Joe. All the sense in the world for fleet trucks and work fleets. My next personal truck/car will be a Tesla. I will also be buying their stock.

We don’t need a gas engine. We need you to stop being absolute whimps with your batteries and give us a better charge rate/curve.

Bye Ford. Enjoy your base trim econo fleet sales with your gas powered EVs. I also won’t waste my time buying your stock because you will make even less profitable going forward.

Why not just offer both? Or offer the engine (generator) as a modular attachment that fits in the bed only when needed on long trips? Ford innovated incredibly with the lightning, and is now moving backwards. I guess what sells is what's produced. The lightning is an amazing truck. Too bad EVs have been so politicized. I blame politics on this 80%.

I just want to know if the EREV engine is going to replace the amazing frunk or if it’s going where the spare tire goes?
