Just wondering what Jump Starters that support AGM batteries would you recommend?

I jumped on this one at Black Friday for a fairly good discount.

Haven't had to use it much, but it does do all of these things that I've actually used in the past few months:

- Has an AGM setting
- Provides enough juice to wake the lightning and get the lightning DC-DC converter online even with a completely fubar 12V
- Has an AC input to charge itself and/or trickle charge a 12V
- Charges from and puts power back out a USB-C port
- Has a built in light

I could be corrected here, but I think any 12v jump starter is fine to use to jump start a 12v AGM. Where you have to be careful is when you’re “charging” your 12v AGM battery. In that case, you’ll want a trickle charger that has a AGM setting or auto-detects if it’s an AGM battery (the Noco ones do this).

I would caution against choosing starters that are designed for larger engines.

To get more cranking power without thicker cables manufacturers boost the voltage outside the normal voltage range of lead acid chemistries.

My two favorite jump starters will turn over my engine faster than a fresh battery, but they also both put out ~16 volts to do it.

When starting an engine, the voltage drops immediately while the engine is turning over. We won't be doing that; we just need the voltage in the nominal lead acid range.

Choose a starter for smaller engines (4000 claimed cranking amps or less) or even better, put the jump starter in boost mode and measure the voltage before connecting it to your very expensive vehicle.

In theory, a normal battery will accept the higher voltage as charging current and pull the voltage down. It will be fine. If your battery is so dead that it will not accept a charge, you run the risk of damaging your 12v BMS (best case) or something else on the 12v system.

Also, avoid cheap Chinesium chargers. From a voltage perspective, cranking an engine is very forgiving. We are not cranking engines.

It's a lead acid 12v battery, it won't make a difference.

Expensive, cheap, as long as it provides enough to get the system to power on..

Just make sure your jump pack is charged.

I bought this one: https://a.co/d/3PLC3mr
Haven't had to use it on the lightning, but I have jump 3 other ICE with it and it's done a wonderful job on those.

I would imagine most will work with a Lightning but if you gonna pay $100 plus might as well get one that can jump ICE cars and trucks. I watch the Project Farm videos on YT. Bought the Gooloo 4000 which has been a top performer for several years. The cheap Nocos like the GB20 & GB40 perform very poorly in his tests but the GB150 is usually a top performer.
