So I was perusing the 14thGen forum and ran across this post. Essentially they were saying that the 23's have a smaller wireless charger module with a fan and air vents that maybe works better.

This is one area I have been disappointed with on my '22. When using Carplay maps and the wireless charger, my phone charge barely keeps up and the phone gets very hot. I end up plugging into USB for longer trips.

Anybody have overheating or slow charge issues with their '23?

I have a 2020 Explorer, 2022 Lightning and had a 2022 Maverick and they all overheat my phone when trying to charge. Very disappointing.

Tried once and it stopped charging due to excessive heat. I always plug in now.

Researching this more. I did find an earlier thread and no better on 2023's except one person said it was better. @MickeyAO - in this post you said there was an FDRS update for the module. Have you had a chance to test? Or maybe @Mike G ?

I don't bother with the wireless charger, so I don't know if the update did anything for us. My normal commute is 3 miles during the week, and 4.5 during the weekend...but with a change in responsibilities, the weekend commute may be ending.

I always plug my phone into the USB port. I save the wireless charger for my wife and kids ?.

Agreed. I always plug my iPhone in (as I do when I'm at my desk at home.) Also, I put the iPhone in a holder that "attaches" to the air vent in the dash because I have my "turn by turn" instructions from Waze on the iPhone and I have the map on the 15 inch screen.

Maybe there is some truth to this. I never use the USB cable. If I'm low on charge I use the wireless charger. The only issue I have is the iPhone 14 Pros massive camera bumps make it hard to maintain the wireless charging contact. It has to be in the perfect position or else it loses the charging connection. I've never noticed the phone being hot and I have Carplay cranking tunes the whole time.

Yeah my galaxy s23 gets very hot and will stop so I normally just plug in if I need a charge. I've tried it with my case on and off and didn't seem to make much difference.
I rented a 23' Tahoe for a out of town vacation and the charging pad was apparently cooled so yeah hopefully Ford can fix the pad.

2023 here, I get fast wireless charging (that's what is on the phone screen) and my Galaxy S23 Ultra does not seem to get hot. I gain power while using wireless Android Auto as well. I'm very happy with the wireless pad.
