It's been over a year, but...as I recall one of the SOCs that appeared on the Ford web site was not the LV battery soc but was the HV soc and there was some forum confusion about that and how to find the 12v battery soc or if it was even displayed.
OTA's depend on the state of the LVB to install. The algorithm takes into account, SoC, capcaity, voltage, temperature, BMS data quality, estimated install time and if the calculation is below spec, the update will not attempt to install.

The case below is from an ICE F150 who upgraded his 12v to an H8 to allow for a higher capacity. SoC and capacity are high, but the BMS data quality is questionable, so the OTA is failing.

Yes, I am aware of that - I had the issue a few months after I bought my truck. The thing I was getting at was I never found a Ford web site area that displayed the SOC of the 12V battery, and some folks thought there was one there somewhere - it does display the SOC of the HV battery however.

But nonetheless, thanks, that was a good write up of the issue and multiple ways to solve it when it is the LV battery that is the problem.

I used the long charge method back in the summer of 2024 when I had the update not installing due to the 12v battery SOC below 85% issue -after they explained what the obtuse error message meant, the drive method was what Ford Customer service suggested, but even after driving around for 1 hour, no go.

I keep my 12v on a trickle charger/maintainer in AGM mode(NOCO Genius1) when not using it or charging the HV - I put a small hole in the plastic next to the charge port hinge and ran a fused wire to the battery with an SAE plug at one end for the charger (hooked to the negative downstream of the BMS).

I needed a 5ft version of this for where I put the SAE end.

Added that write up to my collection.

@chl Ford's PTS/OASIS website is where it shows you the 12v SoC.

Thanks, never accessed it before.
I'm not a Ford tech so no authorized access I assume.
It might have come in handy when I had the battery issue!

It would be nice if our support portal/page at the Ford web site, or the Ford app (nee FordPass) provided that info given the many reports of LV battery issues over the years.

I will put it on charger but I am unable to disconnect it because of issues with age and a disability I can not reach it to take off the right frunk liner . I have the left panel off where I can hook up my charger overnight if you think if it will work . I did drive it after the new battery install for 5 hours of highway driving.
I think you're confused, but perhaps not.

The battery is in the center of the frunk. Open frunk, look to back wall of frunk. Slide that panel up an inch. There's the battery.

Yes, you either need long arms, or you need to partially get in the frunk.

Beware of sparks, use a spark free trickle charger - when connecting to the terminals near the battery.

Be sure to connect the negative lead correctly down stream from the BMS (blue circles not red Xs) as in pic:

Or use one of these other methods if you can't put battery on trickle charger - I used the long charge method back in the summer of 2024 when I had issues.:

https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/how-to-get-failed-otas-to-install.29749/

"Long Charge" Method

  1. Drive the car until the high voltage battery is down to 50% or less.
  2. Level 2 charge the car up to 100% in one session
  3. As soon as possible after the car finishes charging...
  4. Unplug the car
  5. Turn ON the car and set the parking brake
  6. Turn OFF the headlights fully (rotate knob counterclockwise)
  7. Manually start the update on the screen with the "Update Now" button
  8. Turn OFF the vehicle, exit, and close all doors
  9. Wait for the update to complete (up to 30 mins)
Level 1 (120V) users, charging the battery +10% will be enough time (e.g. 70% to 80%), then start at step 3.
