So I’m pretty sure this had been asked before. If so just point me to the thread. But lately I notice my battery % vs my range has dropped off some and there’s only 1700 miles on the truck. I use to charge to 90% and get 270 miles. Lately it’s showing 90% but with 260 miles. As I’m parked now I’m at 75% battery but 213 miles of range. That’s off by about 12 miles. Is there an issue here or is this a normal occurrence? Should I focus on battery % or range left?

Focus on driving style and KWh on the trip view.

In ER lightning, 131kw battery:
Example 131 x 2KWh =262 miles range
The KWh number will fluctuate based on driving style,Terrain, weather etc. You can watch it change as you drive. The total range the truck calculates will also fluctuate as it is a calculated average

I’ll check that out. I am just trying to find some peace of mind that this is a normal thing and I’m not have to worry myself about possible issues that are out of the norm

Its normal. If that 12 mile discrepancy makes the difference between making it to your destination or running out of juice before you get there then you should’ve stopped for a charged a long time ago. ;-)

Hey some of us like to live dangerously! I push it well under that when coming home from a trip!

I’m just saying, if you plan on driving 270 miles on a single charge because your truck told you it could go that far and you drove balls to the wall with a headwind for 260 miles, don’t be surprised if you didn’t make it. Lol

If you really want to make sure that your battery isn't degrading, you can always get a OBD2 scanner and check it. There are cheap bluetooth ones available and you just download an app on your phone and connect

Li batteries do "degrade" faster at first then level off to a slow decline, eventually averaging about 1% to 2% per year loss of energy capacity.

But I think what you may be noticing at only 1700 miles is more likely a "normal occurrence" because the calculation parameters (driving style, speed, ambient temperature, etc) have been adjusted for in computing the range estimate calculation.

If you saw a huge drop without some big change in driving (like towing a trailer) then I'd say worry.

The GOM gets more inaccurate the closer it is to 50%. It is more accurate to closer you get to 100% and 0%. For example, I've had the GOM say I have 130 miles of range at 50% when returning home. You would expect if I charge to 100%, it would say 260 miles but that's not the case. When I get close to 100%, it says 300+ miles. This makes no sense. If 50% is 130 miles and the truck has not driven but is charged parked, there is nothing that is changing the mi/kwh that had been trending on my last trips. Charging to 100% should be double the 130 miles of range at 50%(260), but it's not...It's close to 300.

This is why I do not pay attention to the GOM. Just give me battery percentage. In an ICE car, you fill up according to the gas gauge and I like that same setup in my EVs. I hate seeing the GOM. In my Teslas, I could show battery % or the GOM. I always chose battery %. I wish Ford would give us the same option.

I have a 23 XLT Lightning and NEVER rely on the estimated range. But 90% of my use is city streets.
The guesstimated range is dependent on too many variables including, but not limited to temperature, terrain, and driver's foot (lead). Seriously, you may encounter a quirk or two, but the software uses your vehicle history in the algorithm. My favorite example is the range drop based on navigation for a trip. I have the SR Battery, so a full charge is 230 +/- EXCEPT when the route is via a highway. The range drops to about 175 miles due to the 70 mph speed limits vs my normally driving below 45 in city driving.

You're fine. The estimated range adjusts based on various factors including your driving. As others say, focus on your miles per kWh as well. My truck is at average of 2.1 miles per kWh since new, so my range on a full charge should be roughly 275. And that's what I generally see. Also remember that the advertised estimated EPA range assumes a specific mix of driving and some pretty artificial test conditions. Of note, there were reports today that a Silverado EV reportedly broke the record for distance on a single charge - over 1000 miles. The fine print? It was modified, and they tried to keep it between 20 and 25 mph as they drove around GM's Michigan Proving Ground. Remove your seats, drive exclusively at those speeds on an oval track and you're probably getting over 400 miles yourself ;)
