What does "L" or "M" do on our Lightnings again? I seem to recall reading somewhere it actually performed a useful function. That ManionMakes product looks awesome. I'm gonna pick one up to have as a backup.

Doesn't do anything on mine as far as I can tell.

It activates the 30 minute emergency neutral. It's the same function as the button with the circle arrow and "N" on the center console of the original gearshift.

Oh my mistake. My shifter is from the E transit and has an "L". I could have sworn it didn't do anything when I pushed it.

I think you need to have the dial in "N", then try pushing the "L" button. It brings up a dialogue on my instrument cluster display.

I have the dial from an Escape, but all of the center buttons on confirmed dials should behave the same as far as I recall.

Yep, this is correct. I just pretend it means “Neutral Lock”.

When you shift to neutral a dialog appears on the dash telling you to push the indicated button for it to remain in neutral. Otherwise I believe it shifts back to park after a few seconds.

I tried to find some cool symbol in my label maker to put on the middle button instead of the L or M (I forget which I actually have). The "Do not enter" ⛔ symbol was the best I could come up with.

I am really torn over motorized vs not. I have never had a motorized knob. 2018 Fusion PHEV, 2021 Mach-E, 2022 Mach-E.

Now have the mod with the non-motorized but the option to switch to motorized. Need to make a decision.

Also got used to a (motorized) rotary shifter from a previous EV so it's second-nature. I see the benefits of both though.

Since I've learned to put it in park before I turn it off, I rarely (never?) really need it to be motorized. I've not found the need to put it in neutral (always hand wash).

I think if I were ever to replace it, I'd get one that isn't motorized. I kind of like the idea of spinning it one direction or another and not thinking about it. Spin a ways to the right, it goes into drive. Spin it a ways to the left, you're in park.

That said, I haven't used a non-motorized shifter, so maybe there's a downside?
