Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey and State Senator Lindsay Williams Join Advocates to Call for Strong Clean Car Standards and More EVs to Put Us on the Route to Zero Emissions
(PITTSBURGH, PA) – On Monday, June 12, at 10:00 AM ET, the Route Zero Relay will progress on its nationwide journey across the country, making a stop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the industrial capital of the United States. Mayor Ed Gainey; State Senator Lindsey Williams; Patrick Campbell, Group Against Smog Pollution (GASP), and Stephanie Maximous, MD, MS, Pulmonary and Critical Care Physician, at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine will hold a press conference calling for assertive public support for zero-emissions vehicles and the substantial investments being made in clean transportation.
The transportation sector is a leading source of carbon pollution in Pennsylvania and across the country. By prioritizing cleaner vehicles, we can reduce the pollution impacting the health of Western Pennsylvania's residents and mitigate the effects of the climate crisis. Pennsylvania, along with the rest of the nation, is advancing towards a zero-emission future. This progress is facilitated by historic investments in charging infrastructure, battery manufacturing, and tax incentives encouraging consumers to transition to electric and hybrid vehicles.
Speakers will encourage the Biden Administration and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to sustain their commitment by finalizing the strongest option of the newly announced round of federal clean car standards.
