Folks - When I turn the truck off at the end of the day, I’ve got the steering wheel heat on, along with one or two ticks of seat heating. In the morning, when I start the truck after charging overnight, the steering wheel heat is usually (but not always) off, and the seat heating is always off. The cabin temp setting remains where it was set the night before. Is this a Lightning gremlin mischief thing? A clueless owner thing? A fixable thing? All theories welcome. Thank you.

Are you using remote (climate) start?

I have the truck set to prep for departure each day at the same time. I do use the remote climate (not start) feature when available — which seems to be less often now than, say, a month ago. Sometimes remote climate works, and sometimes I get just an error message (though wifi status, location, goat entrails, Henry Ford shrine, and all other variables remain constant).

I had wondered if the LVB was crapping out overnight in the cold, but the truck is plugged in to a 240v/80amp charger all night, which seems to make it unlikely to be a battery issue, right?

Check the HVAC setting(s) on your departure time configuration. I think the options are “Auto” or “Last setting”.

Thank you. Good reminder. I thought I had that covered, but may have gotten sidetracked in the convoluted UI.

In my truck, it doesn’t matter which I have this on when it comes to the seats the defrost and the steering wheel it only is the actual HVac that stays the same. The rear window defrost comes on completely randomly when I turn the truck on, depending on what the outside temperature is. even if there’s no frost on the window at all. Seat heat will sometimes turn on at three or two. Strangely on the mornings were the rear window defrost comes on due to cold temps the steering wheel doesn’t and I have to manually turn it on. I’ve just accepted it as one of the quirks of this truck trying to automatically set the comfort for you.

I've noticed that the settings for wheel heat is inconsistent, my vehicle settings call for automatic and seat wheel warming on when temp's require warming.

They both get warmed while in remote operation, but after tapping the dashboard Push to Start button, the drivers seat will come on, but the wheel lamp does not, I often need to manually turn it back on, it's a 50/50 hit or miss with this minor issue.

The passenger seat takes longer based on the timing and sequence of when my wife enters the truck, in the morning, the truck is in a tight garage, she has to wait for me to back out and move closer to the house before entering the truck, so she's entering after start to drive is executed, when she enters the truck, maybe 50/50 of the time her seat warmer will activate, note that while on DT or Remote Climate Start her seat does warm up, but I'll have to manually switch it on 50% of the time.

Later in the day, using remote start, parked in the yard, I won't push the Start to drive button until we're both buckled in, tap it and the seat warmers come on without intervention, while the wheel warmer is again 50% likely to come on.

I've resigned myself to the quirks, pay attention and adapt to it's inadequacy, first world problems.

First world problem, for sure. I’m happy every time I climb into the truck. I’d buy another in a heartbeat if this one disappeared. I love it.

You nailed it. The setting had reverted to “Auto.” Now, there’s still the question why the setting changed, but I’ll save that for another day. In the meantime, I’ll just hug my warm steering wheel and celebrate the engineering genius that makes it possible.

Sometimes an update will flip a random setting or two…

Getting the front sensors update at the dealer reset several settings including speed limit automation and radio settings. Fairly often during 2024 over the air software updates my radio settings got reset, and sometimes other settings. seems to be a little better recently but software quality control is poor. Check settings after every update.
