Got my PLATINUM Lightning on Sept 12 -
so far has been a phenomenal experience -
was very (loyally) pleased with my '22 Platinum POWERBOOST
and was reallly looking to just get a new POWERBOOST,
BUT the LIGHTNING has been an extremely positive transition:
I LOVE this truck!
So far, has been a FLAWLESS machine.
The big change is the SMOOTH drive train -
unbelievable how smooth the LIGHTNING is vs ICE 10 speed transmission...
also, the speed (quickness) off the line is STUPENDOUS -
if the masses knew how great this truck is, who knows??????
I am totally pleased with choosing this truck -
looking forward to many years of enjoying this OUTSTANDING machine!!!!
I am a YUGE fan - lets get the WORD out - this is a STELLAR machine!!!!!!!!

Could not agree more. This is best truck I've ever owned by a massive margin. The issue, though, isn't the masses not knowing how good this truck is, it's that they have to deal with Ford's spectacularly shitty dealers if they want to get one.

Ford hit a home run with the Lightning. It beats all other ICE trucks by a wide margin except for towing range. The vast majority of pickup trucks rarely tow distances where a Lightning wouldn’t work for them. If you need or want a pickup truck and you don’t tow long distances and can charge at home it is a winner.

My personal opinion is there are several factors that hold back Lightning sales.

Half of the US population is swayed by the anti-EV stuff they are being fed By their chosen media.

Dealers are focused on profit and looking for ongoing revenue. Servicing vehicles. EV with virtually no routine maintenance doesn't generate that revenue.

I am fortunate that I have a good EV friendly Ford Dealership nearby. The other surrounding dealers do not like EVs. It’s a shame we live in such a divided society.

I can relate to your comment about having a dealer that is receptive to EVs. My dealer (Don Franklin Ford, Columbia KY) has actually put a couple of potential buyers in touch with me to help present the truck in its true light. Their sales manager bought a Mach-e about a year after I purchased my Lightning and has absolutely loved it. He drives about 50mi round trip ea day and plugs in to his level one charger to top off.

I take credit for converting him. 😊. Well me and the total stupid discounts Ford provide last year along with his D Plan discount.

Yeah I have love my Platinum. I had two PowerBoosts before it and thought they were the peak of what the F-150 could be since it had ProPower, was quick, and was just the best all-around package I felt for mileage, power, and capability. A Raptor might be "cooler", but its main focus is on high speed off-road driving, and that's just not what I do most of the time, so the PowerBoost beat it in almost every other area that mattered.

But as the years of PowerBoost ownership went on, I went from it being a fun challenge to keep the PB in electric mode to it feeling like a chore. My salesperson reached out in March because he knew I had asked about Lightnings before and Ford was running the craziest promotions and he was able to get me out of my PB Lease early. I jumped on it and can't be happier. It's fun to drive every day, and I still catch myself trying to feather the throttle coming out of my driveway to try and keep the engine from kicking in as I had to with the PB, but that's no longer needed.

Love the truck.

Traded in my PB for a lariat lightning and I’d agree with you 100%! I’ve done 3 cross country trips so far with it. The amount of money I’ve saved in fuel alone is ridiculous!

If Ford really pushed marketing correctly, put butt in seats and educated customers around charging, range, etc, the Lighting would be neck to neck with ICE sales.

I wish it were that easy. The hurdle that EV manufactures would need to get over is the negative press that is being fed and consumed by uninformed consumers. There also is a reluctance to let go of what they are used to.

I’ve been driving and owned for 11 years now. I’ve been able to “convert” 3 friends but none have gone the EV truck route. One has a Tesla Y, another is on his 2nd Mach-e and the other 3 rd owns a Lyriq. All 3 still own ICE trucks. They all tow horse trailers. At least they all say they LOVE their EVs as their daily drivers.

My neighbor at our rural cabin is anti EV. He asked the typical questions I’m sure all of us have been asked.
1- how much does the battery cost to replace?
2- how long does it take to charge?
3- how much did my electric bill go up?

My PB monthly gas bill was $200 (plus or minus) - the Lightning monthly electric bill is half that!

I would say my gas bill was closer to double that. And I’m about half as well when I’m home. My current job assignment has unlimited 80amp level 2 charging so for the next new months my bill is zero! 😁

Welcome to the club!

Have owned a Dodge Dakota, an F150, two Ram 3500s, and extensively driven a Toyota Tacoma....and this thing blows them all out of the water.

Butts in seats changes minds, and real experiences and conversations from real users, that is what @Ford Motor Company should be using in their advertising....not their standard TV adverts.

Show people why they're so good....just like @Trucked Up EVs does on his Youtube channel, show real world users, real world contractors, etc.

Yes, these are amazing trucks. I've had so many trucks it's pathetic. This one is probably the best overall truck I've ever had.

Now, imagine if they can figure out how to get 450 miles of unloaded range and 200 miles of towing range out of these. And put chargers in more places. And design charging locations so that you can pull through with a trailer like you can at a gas station. And make it possible to charge 20 to 80% in 5 minutes. IF they could figure out all of those things where ICE still has a huge advantage, there would be no reason to drive anything else.

Ford should do absolutely none of these things.

You may as well be telling us that the Mazda Miata would be the perfect car for a family of five "if they could figure out" how to make it a full size SUV.
