Tailgate telltale

I recently had my truck in for 10k service (park module recall and had them do tire rotation, they knew enough that I didn't need an oil change). When I got in the truck after getting it back the telltale in the picture was and still is on. Seems to be a tailgate. I think this happened once before when I disconnected the 12v battery. Tailgate is closed. No reason for it to be on. I'm parked really close to the fence in the parking lot, so I will have to wait till after work to open and close it and see if it goes out. As I recall from the last occurance, it didn't turn off, but eventually worked itself out.

Tailgate status glitch

So it's just a known glitch? No fixes or anything else? Like I said it happened before, and as I recall, just fixed itself. I'm gonna go move the truck, open the tailgate, close the tailgate, and see if the light is off. I have had several of the other weird things like go to close it and it goes half way up and then opens again with a few beeps. I have not had the one where it is opening and then just free-falls the rest of the way down/open.

Funny you bring this up… I had mine in for 20,000 mile service a couple weeks ago, and they replaced the 12v as part of that. This morning, I went to pull out of the garage, and the tailgate warning light was on. After pulling out, I opened it and closed it again, and the light went off. We’ll see if it comes back on.

I recently had the same issue...a simple open and close of the tailgate solved the problem.

Same here a couple times. In my case I have a shell on the truck so the tailgate can't go down without opening the back hatch on the shell first. So I know the tailgate is not really open. I just open the shell hatch, cycle the tailgate, and close the shell hatch and all is well.

Cycled the gate. Clicked the button, started to open, at last couple inches, it just dropped. Had to manually close, button didn't work. Since then all is back to normal.

If you see the tailgate light and you think it's closed, stop, open then close the tailgate. Never assume it's a glitch.
