Before I start looking into this myself, has anyone assembled a concise timeline of the Lightning prices over the course of the past 2 years?

You had original MSRP, then starting in August '22 there was the MY23 price increase, I believe another Pro only increase in October' 22. In this past March there was another small price increase. In May they raised some prices and lowered others (XLT ER below 80K) and then obviously back in July they substantially dropped prices.

So several price changes. Some substantial, all within 12 months.

This is probably going to be the new normal as opposed to offering differing manufacturer to dealer incentives every month as Ford has done historically.
This allows Ford to capture more of the actual market sales price instead of having dealer markup. It also helps to ensure that customers are getting the discount and it isn't kept by the dealer. There's nothing in the past model of factory to dealer incentives that required the dealer to pass on that savings to the end customer.
In the EV space, people have come to appreciate the Tesla and other direct sales having a stated MSRP and this is the price you pay. Ford is working on transitioning to direct sales for their EV business and this seems to be the beginning steps as far as pricing is concerned.
At least this is my impression of things

This explains why over 50% of new production will be XLT's huge price drop from launch to now.

Also - is there anyone out there who would purchase a Lariat SR vs. XLT ER at the same price point?

I think the XLT high pricing was out of whack from the very beginning. Compared to the launch pricing it's obviously the best value now. Even regardless of the Launch pricing I think XLT-high is now about the best value to get just enough technology and comfort at a reasonable-ish price(with the full rebate). A year ago we were looking at a rebateless future for ford until the IRA came along.

With 2024 Pricing and new trim announcements a month away I wonder where the XLT High is going to come out. They could strip out features to help makes space for a new trim or they could raise prices if they actually do deliver android auto or an even slightly improved battery that was supposed to be in the works. It could be now or never for the xlt high but we'll see.

wow this really captures the volatility in such a short period of time. If this is the new EV normal, buckle up my dudes.
