I went with the Real Truck, Bakflip MX 4 trifold and I’ve been very happy with it. It was actually very easy to install and it’s been completely watertight so far, even after going through some really high-pressure car washes. I had thought about the sliding cover because I didn’t want to have my rear window obscured if I had a full load, but then I figured that if I had a full load in the back of the truck, I wasn’t gonna be able to see out the rear window anyway, so having the ability to use all of the bed is a good trade-off for me.

I have the LEER/PACE EDWARDS from ford accessories. The powered one. I had the ford dealer install. It does not leak. Although water does come in around tailgate when in a car wash. Never have seen it wet after driving in rain.

Like most others I recommend what I use, a hard tri-fold. My thought process was; with the 5.5' bed being as small as it is, I didn't want to sacrifice more bed space with a tonneau that rolls into the interior bed space.

The most popular hard folding cover on the market for good reason, glad you like it!

Should I go with a tri fold tonneau cover or a sliding one? Which option works best? Thanks.
I have the Ford sliding cover. It’s about 2k. There are cheaper sliding covers. It is much drier inside. I use to have a backflip mx4. It didn’t seal well. I have not had my cover but a few months. So don’t have a long term review. The bakflip did fold up behind the back window. And I just put a sealed piece of plywood with handles for the water to drain under it. And I could slide my things forward without getting in the bed.

Tri-fold covers are pretty affordable and totally fine if you only use the truck bed sometimes.

I weighed the options, and for me it was a RetraxPro XR. My XLT is a daily/commute vehicle. I'm not in the trades, so it's a roomy, comfortable way to get around. My Dad had a Dakota with a slider way back in the 90's. I always liked the access and secure that he enjoyed. I'll occasionally haul some lumber or other bulky items from Lowe's ,but 99% of the time it'll be just me in the cab. As for the box holding the rolled up cover, not a problem for me.

Awesome! Glad you are enjoying the Retrax Pro XR! It is definitely a top of the line cover.
