Had 2 flats in one day and of course tires at 4/32 when i got to Discount Tire. Was going to be 1700.00 for a set of 4 oem size michelins.

Decided to test my luck with smaller wheel, larger tire combination. Tire sticks out about an inch more than stock. Stock ride height. I really like the looks better.

Just hoping i didnt completely destroy the range. I reset trip upon wheel swap so will post details once ive got some miles on them. Total cost for wheels and tires with certificates was 2400.00. In my mind that is saving money as i still have stock wheels, maybe thats just my mind trying to justify this expense.

Curious as to what others think ok this forum.

Do you remember what the offset is on those wheels? I have a brand new set of 295/70R18 tires in my barn that I'm itching to put on the Lightning, but I suspect that I'll need wheels that are very close to OE offset specs to prevent rubbing.

I love that look. I'm a new owner and like my current look enough to keep the stock 20" rims and tires that are basically new. As soon as I need tires, I will need to reference this thread! I'd much rather a bit more sidewall and less rim. Mi/kwh be damned! BTW I'm currently averaging 2.9 mi/kwh which is much better than I expected!

Looks great! I like the wider stance. Are these 18"X9"? They look slightly wider than the factory 8.5" rims. It squares out the 275 tires nicely.

That’s going to hurt the range anything wider than stock is gonna hurt and non EV rated tires.

What’s your range hit so far? I went with 20x9 icon wheels with factory tire size and -18” offset. I have seen a decrease of .4 after 500 miles of phoenix summer driving compared to 2500 miles across 3 seasons driving before the swapp. I’m hoping.my average will increase after we get to temps under 100.

What did you do with your factory rims?

Ive 0nly got about 100 miles since swap. Shows 2.0 average for those 100 miles compared to 2.1 for last 1200 miles.

I kept stock rims in event of trade in. Although i love the truck and am horribly upside down so i dont see that really happening anytime soon

That'll likely cost about a 10% range hit. I use BFG K02s in the winter, and I've tested them a few times against the stock tires, and it's about an 8% range hit. These will be a little worse because of the width.

There is lots of evidence that EV's range is actually increased with smaller wheel and larger tires. You can see it listed in EV ranges with different wheel options, and there's some interesting youtube videos about it. It's also more comfortable for the little bit of off roading we might do in our lightnings (given ground clearance). That range increase may be offset by the style of tire, though (all terrain vs all season), so in theory you might get exactly no decrease in range with the offsetting effects.
