Why the Lightning hate?

Yeah what's funny is that when I got home, I used the power of social media to track the guy down in less than an hour. Like I said, small town. I sent him a public message that everyone could see and told him to meet me out in a desolate area and we'd see just how fast his Mustang is. His reply: "I don't have time for this."

Of course he didn't.

Why the online hate against Lightning?

I have had my Ford Lightning for almost 3 years now in the south, and I have never once, not once, gotten any hate in person. Just respect, admiration, and polite questions with usually conversation after that.

And any negativity I see online is almost certainly from ignorance and jealousy, because the only people that hate electric vehicles, have never driven an electric vehicle.

And DO NOT FORGET that online trolls and people who persistently disparage electric vehicles are almost certainly bots or shills for oil companies, gasoline engine subsidiaries, and anyone else with a monetary interest in seeing electric vehicles fail.

They won't of course, they are the future and they grow by double digits every year. But there is a deep and dark ulterior motive to online hate.

People hate change in general. Everyone hated my Harley Davidson Livewire until they rode it. I loved it and put almost 9000 miles on it. Think it's the same with the Lightning. Some don't like change, some are jealous. Some don't remember fuel shortages (coming to the west coast in a big way real soon) Very Few use a F150 outside of the deliverables of the Lightning. Why the online hate against Lightning?

It's mostly a 2 part political issue.

• Part 1 is general anti EV rhetoric that some people hear on the favorite cable news channels.
• Part 2 is the die hard truck owners that have a resistance to change.

Just this week I heard:

• Don't you worry about your wife getting raped when charging? I respond that she never has charged anywhere other than at home and at my age she no longer has to worry about that
• How can you sleep at night due to the fire potential with the EV's parked in your garage?
• How long does it take to charge? My response is that same amount of time it takes to charge my Laptop of my cell phone. 10 seconds to plug it in at home and it gets charged while I sleep

I frequent another Ford-Trucks Forum and there are multiple haters there on the Lightning sub-forum. Most of the anti-EV posters seem to be owners of older Diesel trucks with massive resistance to change.

There’s definitely a place for a EV truck and there’s definitely a place for a 6.7L power stroke diesel,
Each can do something that the other can’t….its just dumb to oppose the other.

Not to mention how much tail pipe air pollution costs in health care for asthma, etc. - a lot more than the tax credit of $7500!

This is what I used to say to ugly ICE drivers who used to harass me about my Nissan Leaf back in the day (not much of them anymore around here - they're all driving Teslas now I guess):

"Don't be such a gas hole!"

Now I just put it in a sticker in my side window:

I have a few others on my Leaf I collected over the years:

This one (above) got a Suburban driver so angry he rolled down his window to yell at me how much he loved burning gasoline...huh? When the light changed I shifted out of ECO mode and left him far behind with that instant torque!

So, get used to it, haters gonna hate....I just tell them this:

My Lightning tag is BYBY-GA5

I wonder if FLorida would reject "GAS HOLE" for a personalized vanity Plate?

When you apply for a personalized plate they require that you list the meaning of the plate. For our plates below we just list it as Electric Vehicle propulsion.

We owned Ford F-450's to tow our 14,000 lb 5th Wheel RV. We sold both earlier this year. The 450 was ONLY used to tow the RV.

Maybe if you changed it a bit it would not be so obvious, like:

"GAS OLE" for Spanish gas

or "GA SOLE" for a Georgian fisherman

or "GAS OLD" for leaving gas behind with an EV?
