@tommolog had mentioned this in his charging video as well. It will be interesting how long that lasts or if it slowly tapers down to the 125-150 range once the voltage ramps up

This is a poor "charging" video.

They plug it in, look at charging screen for 15 seconds when they were connected for 3 minutes.. then precede not to talk about charging or look at the screen again...

Just a click bait video.

It's always going to spike @ a specific % when you plug in it, then it will level off... You really just want to see what the level off speed is... Not whatever it did for the first 3 minutes.

It was definitely a poor video but there is great info from it. They showed 50% SOC nearly 1min in and 66% charge at 9min. That is 21kWh over 8.5min which equals 150kW average speed. The 170kW displayed is what the charger is exporting but that doesn’t account ~10% for losses by the time it gets to the battery. This means for the 10 minutes here there was no spike at the start which levelled off. It just consistently delivered 150kW to the batteries.

This is consistent with expectations for the 20-80% SOC range which is better than every car (Tesla/etc) that brags about 350kW charging but averages less than 150kW over any time longer than 15min.

TOM will give us the low down when he gets his chance, and it will be a lot more detailed and specific, and I'm sure with starting a charge at different points, whether almost 'dead', to arriving with 79% battery level... and it may even be different depending on 'which' charge station you use, and even 'which' charge pedestal at the SAME station you use...

on the other hand, I think in most travel situations it will not be such a big deal, although it does seem frustrating when Ford says one thing, but the charge station does something else... Ford can't control that.

We knew all this weeks ago from the Texas event. It's great this further confirms what they reported... But this isn't news.

I'll be doing that as soon as I get mine :) I will have a LOT of deep dive charging analysis.
Looking forward to it. Hopefully you can spend a minute or so on the standard range theoretical curve data from ford. Also if you can get the technical reason from ford why the charging speed is less. Us standard range folks feel left out sometimes :)

Thanks for the tremendous information I've gotten watching you videos.

Could you compare EA 150kW pedestals with EA 350 kW pedestals when charging Lightning? It would be interesting to know if the extra ~20kW is real, Memorex, or if it makes a difference across the charging curve. (The 800V folks are going to hate the competition for the 350s if it doesn't matter.)

Definitely want to see this. 350kw are virtually non-extistent in New England.

Absolutely. I'll do 0% to 100% chargecrecordings on both 150 kW and 350 kW stations and compare the results. There really won't be much difference....

@OutofSpecKyle I believe has one as well and a new Rivian to give comparisons. I want to see them both towing a large camper and see who does it best. They'll have a lot of good data on out of spec as well

I charged at an Electrify America station for 20 minutes to get up over 50% to get to my destination. I averaged 93kw.
