So, 75% of the total capacity of the battery? Or 75% of the charge that Ford allocates for use?

Great question. Since lower is better, I’m going to charge to 75% of the allocation from here on out

20/80 is a good rule of thumb.

Ford says below 90, no worries.

Other tests have shown minimal deg differences between ac, DC and charging to 100.

On that note. I've got my max level set to 90%, however I've noticed when the truck is conditioning itself in the mornings, the SoC will often climb to 91% or 92%. Think this is detrimental? Should I dial the max level down to 80 or 85%?

No, not at all since you're driving it shortly. Charging to 100 is fine if you're going to use it, they just don't want it sitting for extended periods at a high soc. For storage more than 30 days they recommend a 50% soc.

Not necessarily detrimental, but do you need drive it enough to use 90% most of the time? If not, why not set it lower during periods when you don't need it?

If you look at the video lecture by Dr. Jeff Dahn Dalhousie that is referenced in this video; you will find it useful to note that our Lightning battery cells uses NCM9 (Nickel, Manganese, Cobalt with 90% Nickel) according to articles by SK Innovation on 6-18-2021.

Dr. Dalhousie makes some specific recommendations for high Nickel batteries, but from my understanding our battery management system already will handle those concerns.

For our throw away frame of looking at trucks, it is obvious, if your treatment of the truck's battery now can be documented later, these batteries will be in high demand for secondary use in power storage situations when we are done with it.

I really believe MickeyAO has been telling this information now for 2 years.

I leave my max at 70% normally, and plug in every day, but don't hesitate to charge to 100% before any trip where I'm going to use it all. I figure 70% stated is probably around 65% actual, and I'm comfortable that will lead to minimal degradation over the expected 3-5 year period I have it and the battery will be in great shape for the next owner.

Reality is that I'd you don't drive an absolute ton of miles and you are going to trade within 5-7 years, just following Ford's recommendations will be plenty good and total degradation will be low. But if you want to keep it 10-15 years and 200,000+ miles, it may be worth a little extra care.

I don't need the full capacity at 90%. I recall someone on here pointed to the FAQs on Fords website which recommended 90%.

https://www.ford.com/support/how-to...ightning-charging-frequently-asked-questions/

I can safely dial that back to 80%. Heck even 50% would give me enough range and anxiety protection for my daily 22 mile commute and subsequent putting around town.

after I reach my targeted % should I keep it plugged in? Is there any benefit for keeping it plugged in? If I want to precondition, I would just plug it back in so do I really need to keep it plugged in?
