I see that 'TaxMan' has made his entrance into the world of 'youtube' via the OutOfSpec channel where KYLE is touting the brand new 'ADAPTER' for the superchargers, for the rest of us : )

Where's the HARLEY???? oh well.
Thank you!
If mother nature cooperates, I'm riding the Street Glide on Sunday, we've had a pretty good winter two years in a row!

As far as home energy charging discounts, my service with National Grid / Charge Smart program requires a connected EVSE that meets their requirements, the compensation is a discount of 3 cents/KWH in winter and 5 cents/KWH summer, so that's still a costly 28 or 26 cents/KWH compared to what some of you folks are offered.

I'm still happy to be driving the Lightning instead of the F250-PSD regardless of cost/savings

2024 Quarter 1 energy report:
2750.3 miles with average 1.6 MPK infers 1719 KWH of energy.

Ford F-150 Lightning Taxman's Lightning Chronology 1711884982148-q8

FCSP and Emporia energy logs

The FCSP had a few missing records due to cloud logging problems, the Emporia captures a more accurate picture of total energy to power the truck from home, but doesn't reflect the few DCFC events I had at this point.

My spreadsheet of energy consumption tracking which includes all DCFC sessions indicates a total of 2209 KWH the first quarter of 2024 total cost $694.47, over 2751 miles., the column Saved + EV CR includes a pro-rated Mass EV credit that I got when I purchased the vehicle, I account for this upfront subsidy to help with energy cost $78.13/month)

31.44 cents a KWH,
1.245 MPK (several cold weather idling sessions while not moving)
25.24 cents a mile.

Two years on the road, 19,504 miles, 12.887 megawatt hours of energy which has cost $3,547 total, comes to 18.18 cents a mile.

The former truck, which was a F250 PSD, averaged 21 cents a mile the 10 years I drove it. The first two years of the PSD's service life cost $4,028 in diesel to drive 14,625 miles, a pace of 27.5 cents a mile, I was towing more then!

The Lightning is still a blast to drive, it fits our lifestyle and travel needs, maintenance is substantially cheaper so far and has had no defects or problems to date.

I'm very late with the Summer / fall report, I had other personal issues going on the end of September to distract me, but I did grab these screenshots.

This covers driving from April 1st to September 30th

The Lightning took the day off today so I could enjoy a mild weather ride on my Harley, a glorious 67 miles of smiles on December 31st, it's a blessing this time of year. It's a new bike with only 1404 miles since October 17th, I burned 35.44 gallons of premium fuel, costing $133.86 for an efficiency of 39.6 MPG and 9.6 cents a mile for fuel

The secretary of my treasury drove her ICE on our daily rounds, and topped up her tank, she only drove 1004 miles in 2024 and used 57 gallons of premium fuel costing $203, for an average 17.6 MPG and 20.3 cents a mile for fuel, as you can see we really enjoy using the Lightning over her car.

Now onto the fourth quarter weekly charging numbers for the Lightning!!

The charts show my increased use of E-heat and lowered MPK efficiency {2.0 to 0.8 mpk}, this is because of a lot of "off the plug" departure time or remote climate start to prepare the cabin for a ride.

I really enjoy the comforts of my Lariat after spending 10 years driving my former F250 PSD which is a very cold blooded truck in XLT trim, it had no creature comforts like E-heater to warm the cabin faster than the Powerstroke ever could during most of my commutes to work, lacked heated wheel, no heated seats, an overall chilly miserable 10 years in that truck, so you can see why I'm enjoying all the comforts in my 2022 F150 Lightning.

Final statistics for the year. 7502 miles, 5095.1 kWh of energy that cost me $1683 of mostly home charging, with a five DCFC sessions during the year costing 33.03 cents a kWh on average, 1.47 MPK or 22 cents a mile for just energy cost of operation.

The savings over diesel fuel came to $1066 this year which includes an apportionment of the More-EV-Truck credit, without that credit, the savings is a modest $129 dollars.

Take note, I'm acceleration junkie, I also idle with heat on in the cold season more than most folks, knowing it has negative impact on efficiency and range, it's rarely a problem because seldom do I take the truck on long trips, when I do, I behave but not to the level of some of you expert hypermilers!

Ford F-150 Lightning Taxman's Lightning Chronology 1735693220927-v8

The cost to operate, includes maintenance, inspection, insurance, less an annual allocation of $938 for my More-EV-Truck credit from Massachusetts, though I got this credit the year of purchase, I'm including it as a credit over 8 years of anticipated operations, this essentially helps me justify the exhobinant energy costs in my market, based on this years numbers, that amounts to about 18 cents a kwh value against the 33 cents I'm paying for retail energy.

Ford F-150 Lightning Taxman's Lightning Chronology 1735693314234-5y

Looking forward to the next 5+ years until the warranty has run its course and no major failures happen over that time frame.

Happy New Year 2025, lets see what I can accomplish in the coming year.

BTW: I hope to get the race bike up and running this spring, so there will be more trailer towing activity in 2025 if my plan comes together.

The savings was for the full year or for the fourth quarter?

I didn't set up a quarterly recap within the spreadsheet, but savings analysis shows monthly apportionments on the red highlighted rows and entire year on the bottom row of the of the chart.

With that feedback, I may redesign it to give more monthly details and a quarterly recap for 2025.

I guess if I had looked closer or did the math that would make sense-LOL

After three years of operation over 25,877 miles, here is a roll up of energy & operational costs for my 2022 F150 Lightning Lariat Extended Range, with a comparison of historic costs to run my former 2012 Ford F250 XLT with a Power-Stroke diesel engine.

I'm still saving driving electric, but I would have hoped to see greater savings, but electricity costs has increased substantially, the price of diesel fuel has been stable over the past 3 years, these are the key factors that narrowed my savings projection made in the summer of 2022.

The Lightning has been trouble free so far, I have not had to change the tires yet, but will probably need to by 30,000 miles, the old PSD's OEM tires lasted quite a while, I had just swapped them prior to trading her in.

Insurance costs have increased a lot this year, I've also factored in the Massachusetts More EV Truck rebate, received as a lump sum, I'm factoring this credit against operation costs over a ten year period, assuming I drive this truck until 2032.

The cost per mile driven for the Lightning 26.2 cents a miles, while the historic cost of the Diesel truck was 42.0 cents a mile, I've saved $4,094 in costs overall driving electric, future savings will continue at a lower rate as energy costs have been increasing lately, example in 2022 average energy cost 34.51 cents a KWH but today that cost is 41.1 cents

The "Miles/KWH" rates are lower than manufacturers estimates for EPA comparison purposes, Ford suggests an ideal 2.4 miles traveled per kWh of energy, my value include the cost of AC to DC conversion, battery conditioning in the winter, on plug cabin conditioning to heat or cool the truck prior to driving, occasional idling while not driving, etc. This is the realistic energy efficiency, while for driving purposes, I plan road trips based battery energy available in the range of 1.7 in winter to 2.0 in summer.

The Lightning continues to be a joy to drive as compared to the F250, lot's more creature comforts which I value, easy refueling, just plug in once a week in the garage for routine local driving, and a couple times a week if I do a long road trip.

Towing of trailers, is the only negative issue, though I haven't done nearly as much as I anticipated, I expect to do more of it in 2026 when I'll be ready to resume motorcycle drag racing, on those trips drive efficiency will drop to 1.0 mile/kWh, it will require mid trip charging, two sessions for a race day to get me to the track and home where top-off will be done.

Ford F-150 Lightning Taxman's Lightning Chronology 1754248384507-ha

Hopefully Ford will have improved technology that reduces costs and increases range with respect to towing by 2032 when I might be trading this truck in.

Thanks for the update. Your record keeping is very comprehensive. My record keeping only consists of a running spread sheet recording the miles driven and the number of kWh added to the battery. In the summer I can average about 2.6 mi/kWh. In the winter I’m lucky to get 2.2 mi/kWh.

If your electric rates keep going up, it looks like getting a Tesla membership and using superchargers may be the lower cost option.

Here in Texas by using battery storage and solar, I can manipulate the competitive market down to 4.5 cents / kWh in the summer and less than 1 cent / kWh in the non-AC months.
