Nobody here is "demanding" that you never charge past 90%. To the contrary, if you are going on a trip it is recommended that you charge to 100% and precondition just prior to departure. The owner in the article said his truck has 230 miles of range, and on his 130 mile trip from Fresno to Capitola he arrives at his destination with only 40 miles of range left. He must have the standard range battery that actually has 240 of advertised range. My point was that if he'd purchased an extended range model instead, he'd most likely have 80-100 miles of range remaining and would not be so concerned making that trip on a regular basis. Sounds like maybe you are in a similar situation with your XLT, especially if you never charge to 100%.

You aren't going to come close to the range. But you don't care, cuz there are gas stations every half mile in the city. Range should be listed as 240 city/200 freeway. Would really help expectations.

True. I had to reverse what I'd known to be typical my whole life with ICE vehicles when comparing city to freeway driving on BEV's.

This article is pure FUD due to the 4th QTR numbers where the 3 year old Lightning outsold the shiny new Cybertruck. Stalling CT sales even with deep discounts is slowing their production numbers. Comparing Apples to Oranges, a SR to the one and only battery pack offered by Tesla is hilarious. When the RWD comes out then go ahead and compare them.

The Cybertruck is mentioned in the headline to get eyeballs. clickbait if you will. it's mentioned only once in the entire article. most of the article I agree with. Ford made a huge bet which has put them in a pickle. But I'm confident they will recover and the Lightning will continue to be a GEM.

The Headline is meant to pull in T$LA Stock holders and CT Owners to claim victory. Like when they mention that Ford stock is in the gutter, I just shrug my shoulders, I'm not that invested in Ford.

I agree clickbait is the right word. I read the headline and stopped when it said owner 230 miles promised complaining.

That is all you really need to take from this article.

Bottom line is it took Tesla 10-12 years to get to breakeven, it will take Ford at least that long since they are not 100% focused on doing EVs.

I look forward to the 2027 Ford Lightning. If it is only 20% "better" than my current Lightning, I will be delighted.

PS Always buy an Extended Range EV. You will be glad you did.

I hope the 2027 exists at all. I suspect the T3 will end up being the only pure EV truck from Ford and in the future the F-150 Lightning will become an EREV with a gas generator range extender similar to what Ram is doing.

Hopefully the 2027 T3 will be Lightning like. i.e. size wise.
The Rivian is a nice vehicle, but the size, functionality of the Lightning makes it different and unique from the Rivian.

I think Ford is working on a platform for future vehicles one of which will be T3…. Think bronco, escape and Maverick or I believe also F150 and expedition. Multiple vehicles on the same platform will drive down costs!

And the cost! In an ideal world I’d have an R1T as my daily driver and a hybrid F-150 as my tow and work vehicle but I couldn’t afford a Rivian.

The MachE is a well liked vehicle, as is the Lightning.
A Bronco Sport might be a strong seller. Styling still sells, and add in the pluses of an EV, and IMO that could be a hit.

I had a reservation for a Rivian in March of 2019. When I finally got to the top of the list, and they said come get your $90,000 truck, I balked.

Exactly. The R1 is a great vehicle but without price cuts it’s out of reach for most people. I feel like the R2 and R3 will be huge if they can deliver as promised.

I think the ER battery pack is overrated as a solution for those with range insecurity:

I think larger battery packs are overrated. Charging speed is more important (and the Lightning isn’t great there). If you’re truly road tripping, a bigger battery pack only gets you further for the first leg of the trip. And if range is cut in half during the winter, then so is the range advantage of the larger battery pack.

Right now the Silverado outpaces the Lightning in both regards, but an ER or SR Lightning with Silverado charging speeds would be a bigger upgrade than a Silverado sized battery.

There's nothing that's perfect enough to totally satisfy everyone's needs at this time, and who knows if and when things will evolve to do so. You have to pick your poison. So do you want the Silverado's larger battery pack? You have to pay more than the Lightning to get that. But then you have a heavier truck that is noisier, doesn't handle or ride quite as well and doesn't have as nice of an interior. I have enough patience (and lack of bladder capacity) to deal with the Lightning's range and charge speed.
