Fog lights and ditch lights with backlighting, switches, and canbus integrated controls

I'm sure there are canbus lines with the needed signal under the hood but not documented so IDK where. There are other CanM8 devices that include more/other light signals. I wanted the side lights since that drives the amber backlighting of the LED pods.

Someone on Facebook discovered they can connect to the small brown wire in the 7 pin connector in the hitch to power (or activate with a switch) lights directly off of the trucks running lights.

I assume he ran the front fender flare lights to the back too, but trying to get a follow up from him. Either way, running a wire slightly further to the tow hitch seems like it could be easier than canbus for something simple like DRLs.

The wire from that trailer hitch has to make it up to the ECU. There's got to be a spot to tap it somewhere along the way without having to go all the way back to the trailer hitch.

In my case I am just putting DRLs up front and lighted emblem.

I don't disagree, but this is the first I've seen someone be able to tap into the DRL from the truck without the canbus. If you find somewhere else better, let me know!

Despite other sources that I have read that say you cannot tap into the headlights, this guy seems to show that you can.

Wanted to pick this thread back up. Looking to power some accessories off of the parking lights, etc. But canm8 is no longer answering emails. Trying to get something up and running using an ESP32 with a CAN shield. I can read from the main HS-CAN lines but no codes are getting broadcast on the MS-CAN network. All documentation I can find seem to indicate that lighting codes get broadcast from the MS-CAN.

Each can bus will have its own twisted pair.

Are you looking at two different twisted pairs of wires?

How did you tap the wires and what are you reading it with?

MS-CAN is a slower protocol than HS can

So far I've tried to tap at the OBD-II port, which from the documentation I've found has an HS-CAN pair and an MS-CAN pair. Using an ESP32 with the mrdiy CAN shield and writing message hex out to my phone via bluetooth. I can read messages from the HS-CAN, but it's simply spamming message ID 0x59E. Not able to read anything from the MS-CAN. Shield is set to read only mode simply for sniffing currently. Have configured the code sketch for the correct timings (500kbps for HS, 129kbs for MS)

The CanM8 device is what reads it. I tapped into the grey canbus pair there by the door at an existing molded connector, and ran my own twisted pair to the CanM8 unit. I believe the grey pairs are MS-CAN.
