Will truck cool the battery at any time if I set a schedule in the charger itself?

I just bought a new Emporia to get away from the mobile charger. I want to move my charging schedule to the Emporia app. Can the truck still protect the battery temps outside of charging hours?

Nope. Use the in-truck schedule for charging times and allow the Emporia to be "always available".

Yes the truck still protects the battery even if the EVSE is not providing power. Many times I have heard the fans kick in while plugged in but waiting to charge.

I don't use the truck scheduling as it likes to charge outside TOU window even when it knows the window.

If you put time constraints on the EVSE, it won't provide power if it is in the constrained time.

Correct. But the truck will use battery power to protect it's self

If your truck charges outside of your charge window, it is likely because it calculates that it can't get to your target SOC setpoint by the end of the next charge window. It prioritizes getting to SOC over your charge window and will start charging immediately until it gets enough SOC that it knows it can get to your target SOC in your scheduled window. Then it will stop and wait for your window.

OK. Thx. I will use the truck's scheduler. I Did a first charge with the Emporia last night(70 kWh). It charged at my set amperage with rock solid consistency. My mobile charge must be crap because it fluctuates wildly throughout a charge! I have the FCSP new in box but went with the Emporia for the 14-50 plug in ease. I will get the FCSP installed one day...

My Emporia has been the most reliable and the most functional EVSE for me. You can hardwire it for 48amps and I've never needed more than that. Unless your panel can handle more than a 60-amp breaker, your FSCP wouldn't add any advantage unless you wanted to gamble with the Ford Home Integration system.

Think of the Emporia as a light switch. When you set the hours on it, outside those hours, the switch is OFF. No matter what the vehicle asks for, no power can come.

In addition, it has no idea of the state of charge of the vehicle, so that limit needs to be set in the vehicle.

That said, you never need to "protect the battery" by allowing the vehicle to pull house current. In the dead of winter, it may seek to pull power to keep it above freezing, but all those vehicles parked in driveways, parking lots, and on dealer lots aren't pulling power...

The EVSE is providing when you hear that...

Under freezing conditions, the PTC will not activate to warm the HVB autonomously or while using departure timer and unplugged, nor when plugged into a EVSE where external power control is set to not be energized during TOU conditions.

SOC was not causing it to charge out of window. It occured when I was at 72 going to 80, with a 48 amp charger 7 hours should be plenty of time. So I stopped using the truck scheduling after it did this a few times.

The data from my EVSE does not show providing the truck any energy, yet the heat pump\radiator fans turn on at times over the summer. I don't have any precondition\departure times set and it's summer so it's not the battery getting cold that is causing it.

I know during winter it will kick heater on if battery is cold. When that occurs I can see the energy use in my EVSE, although this only occurs during TOU window I have set, if it's not supposed to provide power it does not.

In winter, when plugged in my truck draws power from the EVSE (A Ford Charge Station Pro) before and after the charge time setting.

So with the truck menu I set the start time for charging to 1AM, I plug the truck in a 10PM and if it is cold enough, it begins to draw power.

When the set point 80% is reached say at 2:30AM or so, the truck continues to draw power until I unplug it the next morning to go somewhere.

That is all under the control of the truck.

I do not think the FCSP decides when to provide power - FordPass can change the start and stop times, but that I assume is changing it one time in the truck and the truck then tells the FCSP when to start and stop charging. And regardless of the start and stop times set, if it is cold and the truck needs power it asks for and gets it, from my observation.

But perhaps other EVSEs have the ability to just say no to the truck even if it asks for power to keep warm (or cool)?
