Fwiw I would strongly recommend charging the battery disconnected from the truck and using a decent quality 12v battery charger. Then installing and resetting the BMS. IMO you want to ensure the battery was 100% fully charged and letting it run, or getting a new battery, does not make certain the battery is fully charged for the bms reset.

Also, have you had the lvb bms replacement performed?

Beyond that, if you almost always use the truck for short trips either remote start regularly, or let it run while you up town performing errands.

MY23 Lariat. I tried to just charge 12 volt battery and let schedule update take over but it failed. Called Ford prior to below steps and they said run the truck for 45 minutes then let it update on schedule but had already done that without success.

Here’s what I did to get the frunk security update on Sep 9 to succeed:

-Charge 12 volt battery with external $25 trickle charger(see other posts on where to connect charger) overnight.
-Start charging the vehicle.
-Initiate software update “now” while vehicle is charging.

Worked on first try. Will update post if next update fails with same error of low battery issue.

I simply closed the frunk on the extension cord initially. After that I permanently mounted a battery maintainer on the back of the access panel and ran a cord from the 12v battery bay to a permanently installed 120v socket in the front air scoop. I plug it in any time I'm not going to drive for a couple of days.

You should all have one of these and use it at the first sign that updates aren't going or every few months:

Battery Tender

Thanks everyone for your help. After trying everything else I finally bought the above Battery Tender Junior. I attached it to my battery and a few minutes later it turned to flashing green (battery at 80%) and a few minutes later solid green (battery at 100%).

I ran the update and it installed with no problems. Better yet, I was immediately offered Bluecruise 1.4 and ran that update and that succeeded as well! Finally!

However, in the end doesn't this mean that I need a new battery?

nothing worked for me. the tender never turned green. it read 14.4v when truck turned on and with truck off only read 12v. idk what im doing wrong. seems simple enough. plug it in, attach clamps at the points pictured in this thread then press the button. I must need a new battery. Its a 22. one of the first off the presses.

Back from the dealership after 4 days. My battery ended up fine. They repaired my passenger seat which took the time. They updated all my missing updates . I figured it out the issue is with short trips and long time between charging sessions that ran the 12 volt down low. I guess I will go back to my old ways of always be charging.
