UPDATE (1/20/26): Solved... see post #11. Thanks to the help received here.
______________________________________________________
Hi:

I'm hoping some of the FDRS gurus can help.

The problem: My father-in-laws 2022 lightning (5/2022 build date) had 22 outstanding updates from Ford. (I don't think it has ever been updated except for the OTAs from time to time.) I was able to update a few modules (PCM, SODIM, TM, etc.), now I can't update *any* modules. I get programming failed on multiple modules- DSM, FHM, ABS, etc. Usually once it gets into programming mode (dash goes dark and the "humming" begins), it usually fails right away- on multiple modules.

More detail:
  • I'm using a high-end clore automotive 125A charger/power supply while programming
  • I just replaced the AGM battery with a new Ford AGM unit and is working great. The old battery was over 3 years old and would be at 11.6V in the morning after just sitting. So it needed replacing anyway. Also the OTAs would never complete because of the low battery voltage.
  • I'm using a genuine FDRS subscription on a fully updated windows 11 laptop and a Mongoose Ford cable that has worked flawlessly on my 2022 Lightning. I even updated the firmware in the instrument panel to get the charge rate display over 7 hours straight. So I know this setup works.
  • FRDS did update itself to version 46.5.6 right before I tried programming his truck.
My setup:

Here are some of the errors I get:

Any ideas are appreciated!

1. FDRS
2. Ford does not make the mongoose
3. OTAs are the same thing. It updates the modules as well as the sync system.

Check the FDRS thread!!!
Ford servers sometimes stop working for unknown reasons
Sometimes you need to power cycle the truck and/or close and restart FDRS

Today's Saturday and the servers should be up and running...although there have been times when they weren't on a Saturday..the biggest issue is really Sunday mornings when we always expect that the servers are down for maintenance.

I don't know what the list of updates were beyond the powertrain items you mentioned but if there are any GWM, APIM, TCU, or IPC updates available, those should always be done first before anything else.

I'm not familiar with the error you took a screengrab of...haven't seen that one before.

That version you have of FDRS isn't the latest one. I believe they are at 46.5.8 now...I'll go back and check my own machine but I'm pretty sure...

Another thing...before you try to do any updates again.....go back to the selftest screen and with the truck fully on and running do a "clear and retest" to clear out any DTCs. Sometimes after one or more module updates you're returned to the available software screen and the left side panel with all the modules is still showing "green" when they might not actually be good. So doing a clear and retest makes sure you have a 'green board' before attempting to update something else. If a module is in an error state then you can't do a software update on it until the error is cleared.

Thank you! I will uninstall and reinstall the latest version of FDRS. I did make sure I had a green board before programming. Appreciated!

I can't offer any help per se, other than that I did update mine this afternoon (~2pm eastern) and I had about 10 or so updates, incl. the PCM, ABS etc. and mine went well.

I installed the latest FDRS, cleared user data.

Only difference, if it matters, is that I'm using a VCM3.

Thanks for the data point. Can you elaborate when you said that you "cleared user data"?

Think it's MikeG who usually recommends clearing user data when you do big jumps in revisions on FDRS (the app/program itself, not modules on your truck) so when uninstalling the old one and/or install the new you can tick a box to clear it.

Gotcha. Thank you, I'll do that. Appreciate the super fast reply.

WOOHOO! Got it fixed thanks to @mr.Magoo & @Mike G 's help. T H A N K Y O U!

Between the uninstall of my older version, clearing out user data on uninstall and reinstall of the latest version, programming of the remaining modules (including the HUGE IPMA 2.5 hour update) worked perfect.

I guess I should have tried that first before asking for help, but your super fast and helpful replies were awesome. I hope to repay the favor.

Honestly, the people here make owning the truck so much better. Thank you!

Nice! Glad it all worked out for you.

Interesting that you had the IPMA, I did not have that one.
Did your ACM clear?
The only modules I couldn't program were BCM (because of the NASTF login requirement.) and ACM. But I couldn't ever update my ACM on my 2022 and just assumed it is a 2022 thing. I would like to get that done as well... on both trucks.

And the BCM OTA update still hasn't gone through even with a battery tender and new battery installed.) Hoping it goes through in a week or so on the battery tender.

We might have to take it to the dealer to get updated. Uggh.

The ACM updates, but it does not clear from the list. You just run the update once and if it says it went through successfully, then it went through.
