Another call from Ford for winter storm stories

My truck sat all winter, plugged in but the battery went dead and froze harder than a bullet. Dealer told me it doesn't maintain the battery when sitting for extended periods??
Local auto supplier had a "bigger" battery and I did the same, cut out the little fins on the side of the battery box. Fits now.
It kept telling me it wouldnt do an update because the battery was low.
Big battery at 80% but I do very short drives so assumed because the battery wasnt fully charged when new it wasn't charging.
Checked voltage, 12.5v and when the truck is turned on the voltage is 15.2 so it is charging.
Nw there is a battery charger hooked to the 12v battery and bring it up to full charge.

Sounds like you are one of those owners who really needs to use a battery tender (and intelligent one that has an AGM setting) to keep the 12v happy. It won't matter if you have a bigger 12v if you don't charge it sufficiently by driving more or using an external battery charger.

My 2022 Lightning ER worked for 3 1/2 days keeping out house up and going with little to no limitations during this winters snow/ice storm in south central KY.

We had just installed a Generator 14-50R plug and a 30amp Lockout breaker to allow us to connect the truck via the in-bed 240v plug.

It allowed my 92 year old dad to remain independent in his in-law suite while also powering the rest of the house’s priority outlets.

Thank you Ford hitting the mark with Lightning’s Pro-Power Onboard.

As a reference for your expectations, when Laura and Delta hit us the first 3 weeks were powered with a 3000W inverter and my Fiesta non stop, 12 gallons lasted 3 days. Ran fridge, 4 inverter window ACs, lighting and a highly efficient combo washer/dryer. Roughly 70% as efficient as the Honda EU7000 it was replaced with when it came available. Worked surprisingly well considering the bind I was in. But you probably should temper expectations about making it a month with no fill ups unless you are powering a fridge and freezer and nothing else.

Owners manual says to disconnect the lvb for long periods of storage. 30 days or more.

I'm one of the owners Ford's Model E comms team reaches out to with requests to pass along. Sometimes @Ford Motor Company (Brian-not AI) posts them first.

After Emily asked us to post this request in our various social media accounts, someone raised your concern about the Lightning having been discontinued. She provided this for us to post in response:

Ford is still continuing its electric journey and they’re still highlighting the reasons why their customers love going electric. The team is incredibly proud of the F-150 Lightning. While production has ended for the current generation Lightning, there are 2025 model years available to purchase from dealers and there are people who are picking up previous model years.

Please remember that Lightnings are not the only Ford vehicles with ProPower Onboard. I'm sure the request went out to the F-150 Hybrid owners with PPO as well.

Seems like more trash. There’s misspelled words on the page. They don’t care, they won’t I don’t know the why for the data call that will go straight to someone’s recycle bin or be taken out of context and put as a quote somewhere you’ll never see. I did say that I’d put up a voting poll to see who believed I’d get a response but I’m sure everyone knows that I won’t. Cheers?

We got over 2’ of snow in Green Bay this last weekend. The truck stayed in the garage during the blizzard on the charger in case we lost power. Two and a half days later and the roads are still a mess with in no particular order, uneven surfaced packed snow, ice, and plowed in street intersections with over 6” of slippery loose snow, sometimes on incline, and the Lightning’s suspension and traction and stability control systems have been getting a workout but have been pretty awesome as long as you don’t exceed the limits of braking. (Four wheel power slides work well with proper planning though). This is all on Goodyear Wrangler HT’s. I imagine the Lightning would be unstoppable on proper snow tires but concern about that expensive air dam makes me not want to bust through drifts or that plow pile at the end of the driveway.
