So, I got scared when I saw only 13 new Plats left in all inventory and I reached out to the closest dealership with 3 - black, grey, white. I was hoping to get another black one, but black and grey had just sold. I've purchased the white one and will drive up and trade my 22. I'm missing it already and hope I don't miss any of the nice full features of my 22. Around 10 Plats left, I suppose...

I have been trying to think what I should do with mine. It's a '24 so I am not concerned with the age, but it's a lease and I only did a 2 year lease thinking I would just get another Lightning or whatever come turn in, but then Ford killed the Lightning. I got a killer deal at the time, so may just buy this one at the end of the lease, but just in case the residual doesn't align with the market value I was considering trying to flip into a new lease early or something.

I dunno... Ford has really messed up my plans with the killing off of the Lightning with no suitable replacement ready. I don't want to go back to gas, so it's either buy the Lightning or go to another manufacturer. Since I work for Ford and have always driven (and enjoyed) Fords, that isn't ideal either.

Glad you were able to make the switch though, hope the new one gives you many happy miles!

Thanks! I really just wanted to extend my time in the Lightning - I'm not excited about the (probably) smaller and light duty replacement and really love the truck, even for road trips. The price was good, trade value okay, and makes me feel like I won't need to worry about it until the market is full of suitable alternative... I'm heading out in a few minutes to go pick it up. I'll post a pic when I get back tonight.

Have no fear! Back in December, Ford promised to:

As for existing Lightning customers who might be coming off lease or looking or a new Lightning, we are looking at the following:
  • Assist early adopters to purchase or lease a new 25MY Lightning
  • Offering extensions to customers who wish to extend their leases beyond the original term
  • Providing dealer support to help match customer with available inventory

Oh, wait. Just kidding!

Man, you had me going, I was like, how did I miss this?!

I saw something I think with Kia where they were offering incentives to EV customers coming off lease who want to buy out the lease, I think it was up to $7k. Not sure how the average Lightning lease residual vs market has been looking lately, but I wouldn't hate it if Ford threw a $5k incentive to buying out the lease.

That said, I have been looking at similar spec Lightnings to mine (but 2023s) for sale from Ford dealers or Carvana and my residual is actually a few thousand below what those are going for, and many of them don't have all the equipment options mine has like power running boards. Not that those make a huge difference, but when comparing against residual it's still something. If that persists any hope of Ford doing the same goes further out the window.

Edit: It's actually up to $9900, boy would that be nice.

"Kia Finance America is reportedly offering eligible EV6, EV9, and Niro EV lessees up to $9,900 to buy their leased vehicle instead of turning it in. On one side, that could keep more off-lease EVs from heading to auction and exposing weaker-than-expected residual values. On the other, it sends the customer right back to the originating dealership."

Just to be clear, they DID promise that. That's verbatim from their post. They just didn't do any of it.

Why?
Mileage, warranty,...?
I would trade my 22 for anything else but a 22. You will miss the 80amp charging, full reclined seat, work central console, bed scale and all the non deleted features that the newer models have.

It does. But, there should be no shenanigans fees either since the lease states what you pay. I presume that the KIA offer serves as an amendment t9 the buyout option that the lessee can exercise.

We did run into issues with a large Subaru dealer when my brother tried to buy out his lease. The dealer (where my brother lease his car) tried to illegally charge a dealer processing fee. My brother ended up buying his lease out directly from Subaru.

I bought my 22 lightly used for an insanely good price at the time, unsure how I would like it coming from several ICE F150s. I typically buy new and this was an exception. I absolutely loved everything about it (maybe on light bar and rear light bar issues). Had a battery module failure, but few other issues.
I got a bit of anxiety with no upcoming exciting replacement and little interest in a Ranger sized EV. The almost gone inventory of new Plats added to the feeling. The extra $10,500 in incentives sealed the deal; switching to white was a compromise.
My initial impressions with 249 miles on it:
- I thought the 22 had "loosened up" a bit much, but it wasn't as bad as I thought
- "Brake System Failure" at 238 miles is now a problem. Shows ABS in the app. I hope this isn't a bad omen.
- Seems like I have all of the updates. Interface seems a bit cleaner. Nice to have latest Blue Cruise, which did great on my drive home, including lane changes.
- The tri-coat white isn't too bad
- The tires (Bridgestone, I think) seem better than the Hancook that they used to deliver with. But, they are still noisier and less responsive than the Michelins that I had put on the 22 25,000 miles ago - I'll probably swap these right away.

I might miss my 22 - here are my notes/thoughts so far on other differences:
- I might miss the rear underseat storage, but probably not
- Scales was a cool gadget, but I only fiddled with it a couple times so it should quickly fade from my mind
- 80a charging will not impact me
- Oddly, my 22 didn't have fully reclining seats either
- both have work console, which I've used twice in two years
- no spare bothers me
- not sure how I will feel about the heat pump

Yes, that’s the legit document Ford sent out to us. My 24 month lease is up in December. I’ve spoken with Ford Credit about negotiating the buy-out and they directed me to the dealer. I spoke with my dealership and they said they do have a program where they can buy the truck from Ford Credit and then sell it to me at a lower price. I love this truck and I wish I would’ve leased a Flash which is what I wanted. To keep it cheaper I went with XLT, but I won’t buy it for the $46K buy-out. I was hoping I could steal this one or buy a 25 for cheap, but with gas prices staying up I guess I’ll be out of luck.

Congratulations on the new ride. I didn't realize there was so few new ones left.

I didn't get a letter yet. Happy to hear this is a possibility. I wonder how much lower than the buyout price is realistic?

I peaked under there and it appears the spare mount is there, so just need to find a fit. Annoying though...

The '22 that I bought for about $54K, with 12k miles, like new, was originally purchased by someone for a marked up price well over $100k. This new one was only $70k, with all of the new incentives - a bit less if you qualify for some of the other incentives.

Regarding inventory - I think there still might be quite a few different trim levels, but Platinum has dropped to or below 10. If they were all priced to what I payed, they'd be gone by Tuesday, I suspect.

I'm curious to see how the used market holds up for these, but am not holding my breath. I'm happy to have a great truck!
