I saw this article too. Does this mean there will not be a secondary low voltage battery at all? I couldn’t tell from that article.
Certainly seems to be saying that there is no low voltage battery at all 👀

Is that an actual photo of what the truck is supposed to look like? Or just AI
Just AI the truck has not been shown outside of the camouflage yet

Many current Lightning owners aren't interested in this maverick sized truck, but I'm interested in seeing all this Tesla inspired tech make it into the next generation F-150 around 2028, 2029. If this small truck proves successful, I could see Ford offering F-150's in ICE, EREV, and BEV.

Especially BEV if they're able to use the latest fast charging CATL LFP batteries. 10%-80% charge in less than 4 minutes solves the Lightning's main problem in my opinion.

Fathom may not be the truck WE want but I think this platform will build confidence in anti-EV America and eventually lead to a 2nd gen Lightning that will be truly amazing.

I 1000% agree and feel the same way. This platform is where they prove out everything before scaling up to the big trucks and we maybe see it for EREV and hopefully a full BEV in the future as the political winds change. I also hope as they sell these and other EVs in the platform in the 100s of thousands the cost of battery production and even the battery technology itself will allow for more affordable and better density packs that mean full size trucks will make sense and can be produced profitably down the road. 🤞

maybe I’m being overly optimistic and naïve …

It is not the actual truck. All designed to get clicks.

Looking forward to a side by side review of this and Slate someday. Hopefully they can find two volunteer deers to hit at 40 mph and then hit again at 70 mph and compare the repair cost and complexity of the fix. This day an age, you hit a mosquito and your car is totaled. Being able to afford to own a vehicle after warranty (insurance cost and reparability) should be a part of discussion for any vehicle that is shooting for lower price categories.

If they can have SUV version of this at close to the same price, it would be very competitive to Slate SUV and it would be a lot cheaper than R2. That vehicle should give them the volume they are looking for.

For me personally, if my Lightning does not blow up, I will wait until some of the better batteries make it to mass market in U.S. before my next purchase.

I don't have any use for a truck that small, but they should have called it the Ranchero, IMO

The name seems like an odd choice; doesn't really have any automotive connotations, positive or negative. Some models like "Escape", "Thunderbird", "Mustang", "Explorer" etc. kind of have "fast" or "fun/adventure" connotations, but "Fathom" does not. For me at least. I grew up reading nautical charts in fathoms so it just means a depth unit.

The truck itself... I don't think I'd ever get one. The problem is the low rider look. Those tiny little windows. My last car was a Chevy Equinox and honestly that was the thing I liked least about it. The window sills were too high. Looks to be the same with the Fathom. I much prefer a truck-like seating position with better visibility where I can get a "freeway burn" by resting my elbow on the window sill if I want. These down-in-a-cockpit sort of designs really don't do it for me. I realize it's probably better for both efficiency and crash safety, but it doesn't feel right to me.

But that's why they make more than one model of car/truck I guess :)

It will be interesting to see people replace the Fathom badge with a Rancero badge.

While I love my Lightning, this is a size I would have preferred. I’m not a fan of the name though, is it a submersible?

I think names will always get criticism but at the end of the day can the deliver on the price and features at a range that people need that’s fun to drive is all that will matter really.

I'm almost 70 and wouldn't mind a slightly smaller EV truck than my 2024 Lightning Lariat. But I don't want a stripped down utilitarian pickup. So, if no nice upper trim level version with all wheel drive and extended range battery plus all the options I currently have, forget about it.
