2026 F-150 Lightning STX Model Introduced. Replaces the XLT

Well, I think "LipSTX on a pig" is a bit harsh (but appreciate the punny "lipSTX"), but I do generally agree that it is mostly cosmetics.

As an XLT owner who bought with the intention of transforming my Lightning into more of a 4x4 than I could buy from Ford I acknowledge this movement in that direction, but am sorely disappointed in how small the step is. Here is how I would put the changes in order of priority:

I think the only things that REALLY helps out folks who have the sort of goal that I had/have are the wheels and tires, low profile tires do NOT belong on a pickup unless it is going to be strictly for driving on GOOD urban roads. (I justified keeping my 20" wheels by getting 35" tires that provide a decent amount of sidewall.)

"e-locking differential" unless I'm mistaken, don't all of our differentials have that capability? (maybe a programming change?)

Running boards... ok

The decals, grill, and STX-only paint colors... OK, definitely lipSTX! (I have nothing against lipstick BTW)

I think they could and should also leveled the front end and put BIGGER tires to truly appeal to 4x4 part of the market.

IF this is going to replace, rather than augment, the XLT package they also need to make the ER, tow package (2nd cooling element), 9.6kW and various other options available.

What I'd REALLY love to see is a production Lightning-Raptor!

Come on Ford, lets see a TRULY BADASS Lightning (range be damned)!!!!

Definitely need a Raptor version, or a new street truck trim without a speed governor.

I like the blue color, but I had hoped Ford was working on a Lightning with higher ground clearance and better approach angles. Still, it’s good to see Ford throwing a bone to the Lightning in any way possible right now.

It's a nice package for folks who don't have a Lightning, but I'm with MikeG, no interest in trading up. Of course, due to the depreciation hit I see very few people that would be willing to eat the cost unless it was groundbreaking new features. Perhaps Ford realizes this so they are just focusing on adding options to get the price right for more adoption.

Personally, I don't like all the stickers/badging. The Lightning lettering on my '22 is good enough. Much more than that and it's a turn off.

The stickers aren't my favorite, but it's good to see the Lightning in blue again!

Still probably would have gone with my '23 XLT given the choice, but pretty nice option for those that travel off road more.

disappointing. I was hoping for a true refresh. Get rid of the white plastic looking front lights and the silly center console shifter at least!

Honestly, it's a 'meh' in my opinion.

Ford needs to design a pickup truck that is outside the box - leave the group think behind.

How about some aerodynamic improvements like going beyond the boxy shaped front which was good for ICE vehicles with radiators, but takes a bit hit on range.

Composite (space-age) materials?

LFP battery?
Or better yet, sodium ion?

We're highly evolved mammals, this is still (relatively) a dinosaur truck suitable for eco-conscious Flintstones.

Don't get me wrong, the F-150 Lightning was a step in the right direction towards EV utility.

But I really hope to see some quantum leaps someday soon - if Ford doesn't get bold with design and technology, somebody else will.

Break the mold.

Ford is trying to make the lightning more attractive and accessible, range isn't an issue with this trim now.
