I get these. Just use an OBD Dongle to verify what it is, then reset the errror.

Been seeing a few threads with people getting service errors and other issues after their shifter swaps, thats kind of disuading me from doing this. Anyone notice these issues? updates on what could be causing this stuff? Was it the model year or updates by any chance? Makes me think it could also be the part numbers or sketchy ebay sellers selling non-genuine parts.

how often do these happen typically?
Depends really. I tried to figure out a pattern, but haven’t really been able to prove it. I’ve gone 6 months without getting it pop up, and I’ve had it pop up twice in 2 weeks. I’ve also had the icon disappear after an off and on cycle and only noticed in the diagnostic logs after that it was the shifter acting up.

The only caution I can say is, make sure you actually have an obd dongle and know how to clear the message because if you bring it to the dealer for anything and they see that message in the logs, a dumb service tech will blame whatever your issue is on the knob… had my dealer try to claim an 12V issue I was having because they never replaced the sensor as part of the CSP was actually the fault of my shift knob. I managed to not say anything mean, but I was definitely thinking mean thoughts.

that isn't bad I guess as long as it isn't spamming me with that error after I do the swap. I already own a OBDLink CX for use with ABRP, is that all I will need to clear stuff? or do I need the MX+ for that. I may just pick up the MX+ since I want to play around with FORscan and enable the Pro Power while the truck is off.

CX will work more than fine. I have the MX+ as well but both do the job for reading error codes and clearing them. It def won’t spam you.

I’ve had my conversion in place for a year now and it has not thrown any errors and has worked flawlessly.

Ditto, here. I only had an error at first install timeframe when I hadnt seated the connector/latch assembly correctly into the rotary housing...and powered on truck (which was all my doing).

Same here - on for over a year and for many many miles - no codes or glitches, ever.
I can tell you that from the many posts about this, and my own experience, if you go for one of the rotaries out of a 2021-2022 Bronco Sport you will definitely not get any errors. I've never had an error for the GSM module and my truck acts like it came from the factory with it installed. I have, but did not use, a rotary shifter out of a 2023 MME, due to the reports from some members that shifters newer than the MY of the truck caused issues. Once you do this mod you'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner.

I'm curious if all of the people who haven't experienced any issues have the same part number.

I am of the opinion you can force any part # shifter into creating a DTC if you shift out of park too quickly after pushing the start button. You can do it with the stock Lightning shifter also. Just been my experience.

I think it depends on which module you buy… mine has been rock solid.

Using an OEM Escape shifter - the only time I've had a fault come up is when I shut down and restarted the truck with the dial halfway on the detent past PARK or between PARK and REVERSE.

Goes away after a drive or two.
