I want to like the Rivians, they seem like a neat truck... but...

I respect designs that are distinctive. So many vehicles are cookie cutter designs nowadays. Particularly CUV/SUV but also trucks. So anything that actually stands out and is recognizable, I applaud. Even the Cybertruck. Though it doesn't appeal to me at all, they get full marks for actually doing it and trying to shake things up a bit.

The Rivians were a bit too pricey when I was looking. Maybe the R2 will do better.

I love the Rivians. I think they look awesome. But the trucks are a little too small and way too pricy for me.

Plus my wife thinks the headlights look like snake nostrils.

I actually like the headlight design but without car play it's pretty much a deal breaker for me.

Depending on how long my lightning stays usable Rivian will almost certainly be my next truck. Fords new EV is tiny like the maverick. I don’t want an electric El Camino. Ranger size would have been fine, but that leaves only Chevy/GMC or Rivian as truck size options for the next 4-6 years.

An R1T would have been a serious consideration for me if they were more affordable and being 3 hours from a service center would have been hard.

I test drove an R2 and R1T on a recent vacation (and had a Model 3 rental). I came away feeling like I’m not missing out on anything with the R1T. Think it was a dual motor and it wasn’t as peppy as our trucks. The suspension is cool, but made some terrible noises going up and down and there was a weird buzz coming out of the steering column. Less space yet not a significantly smaller footprint.

The R2 was awesome! Tons of pep and a real sweet spot in size. Love the Toyota style roll down back glass.

In this experience (with rental mostly), I realized that if the OE makes good software then CarPlay isn’t necessary.

I've always said that the headlights looks like a mouse. I hate that look on the truck.

I wanted the R1T but price and service disuaded me. My wife doesn't like the looks either. I don't really care but a Model Y or an R2 are likely in my future. It would be rear wheel long range in either. But happy wife ....

a Model Y or an R2
As noted, not a big Rivian fan, however as a former Model Y Performance owner I'd buy the R2.

MYP was the most bland, milquetoast vehicle I have ever owned (plus Elon sucks, never another dime to that POS)

EDIT: Maybe I spoke too soon; Redditor's R2 motor failure after... 2 miles

There are certain charms that come with low volume niche auto manufacturers that owners can't escape no matter what, the main one being getting parts and the cost of said parts. That factor alone is enough to put me off this brand given the price point of the vehicles because the parts will be scarce and that means $$$$$.

That said, their planned R3 looks like something I would want.
