I bumped into a Rivian owner Friday night at an EA station in NH. He got out as I was plugging in and asked for my feedback. Told him out of all the F-150's I've had, this one was by far and away my favorite. He said he was a bit "underwhelmed" with the Rivian but was stuck with it for a few more years before he could get out of it. I took pity on him ;)

There’s an R1T in my area. He has super dark tint on his windows. Whenever we pass, I wave at him, but since he knows I can’t see him, he taps his horn. ?

My experience is that Rivian owners I've met are happy with their trucks. I think if you're looking for a full size pickup the Lightning foots the bill. If you're looking for a pickup for off road the Rivian may be the better choice.
I think the Lightning is probably better engineered & may have a better chance of a trouble free life span. The Rivian for a new company is a good first version.
At chargers I've found them very friendly & interested in the Lightning. My first encounter we both took pictures of each others trucks.

There's pros and there's cons with the truck. In the end if you're looking for a traditional truck, Ford's done it and knows it. The ability to not have to think and rigger up a bed extender, tow cams, tow mirrors, etc is amazing.

That said, props where it's due. The seats are phenomenal on the Rivian. The suspension is out of this world in its ability to go from off road to sports truck to (with the new update) luxury/comfort and that handling in a truck is envious. It's far more useful as a truck as one would expect as well especially with the 4.5' bed. But at the end of the day it does EVERYTHING pretty well, but doesn't do any one thing exceptionally well. If I wanted a sports car, I can get a better one in a Porsche. If I wanted a truck, I have a better EV truck in the F-150. If I wanted the locked in/proprietary tech, the tech is better in a Tesla. If I wanted a reliable car like truck, the Ridgeline is hard to beat especially that tailgate. But if I wanted it all in one? The Rivian is it, all while looking like Baymax from Big Hero 6.

Having owned both, this is spot on. Rivian wins on suspension, comfort and tech; Ford wins on actually being a full size truck and all the perks of being an F150 (body on frame, accessories, service locations, etc). I prefer the Rivian, but only because I'm a weekend warrior and I don't need a full-size truck. If I was taking it to a job site, it's the Lightning all day every day.

I met a Rivian owner at Taco Bell/EA in Ellensburg. He asked me if I’d ever owned a F150 befor? I said a 7.3 SD 3/4 ton extended cab wits 6.5 bed. He said “Oh”. Yes, “Size is fine in rural areas, if you’re totally urban you just have to think differently“. He was very complimentary of the Lightning. I told him I drove a 4.6 Adrenalin for a decade and it was pretty versatile, easy to park in an urban environmen. But lacked tow heft that I need. After I topped of at 85% he took my EA port that was cranking a decent 125 KW.
