Witness say Lightning was the cause...

This should be screamed on the forum, maybe that fireman guy can make a video saying it was caused by being near an EV! Or that if the truck was properly serviced it wouldn't have happened!

No, that won't happen. Because unlike you, he intelligently speaks on the topic which his YouTube channel is all about. Which this incident has absolutely no relation to.

Here's another one - the headline could be...

Electrified vehicles burst into flames!
------

Multiple cars on fire after power lines fall in N.J. city

Ford F-150 Lightning Truck hit by lightning bursts into flames, driver narrowly escapes electrified cars catch fire in NJ

Multiple parked cars caught fire Wednesday morning on a city street in Hackensack, forcing firefighters to stand back until a utility company could cut power to downed lines in the area

The Hackensack Fire Department asked residents to avoid Prospect Avenue near Berry Street due to downed power lines and a blown transformer.

Flames and black smoke poured from the vehicles in the 300 block of Prospect Avenue as firefighters from several towns waited for PSE&G to cut power to the area.

I can't park inside because of the fire risk, now I can't park outside because of falling power lines!

I knew I should have stayed with ICE vehicles 😭

Maybe the thread title should be "Truck hit by a Lightning..." since a truck that gets "Hit by lightning" might not be much of a surprise when it bursts into flames.

Those were ICE vehicles on the street and included gasoline fires.

An ICE vehicle in my garage would 'scare' me more that an EV in my garage!

Besides the risk of a gasoline fire when something goes wrong, there is the infiltration of fumes into whatever is above the garage.

A neighbor of one of my kids had an ICE Ford Ranger with a 12v electrical short due to a manufacturing defect go up in smoke and take the whole house with it - no personal injures TG.

My area has mostly underground power lines, they are fed by line on poles a few miles away so when strong winds, a tree limb or reckless driver brings one of those down, that is what usually causes our outages.

Lately data centers suddenly going off-line from the grid has resulted in electrical surges around here...Sky Net (Terminator) testing the system?

"...With millions of these devices in homes across the U.S., Marshall's data collection saw something he flagged as a concern: At 7:56 a.m. Wednesday, electricity throughout the Eastern half of the U.S. dropped, spiked, dropped, spiked and then leveled off... News4 reached out to Dominion Energy about the power glitch. The power company said a piece of equipment on one of its high-voltage transmission lines that serves data centers failed, knocking it out of service. As a result, the data centers systems switched to backup power..."

Ok gotta eat some crow... Finally watched the video and need to undo my comment here. The truck WAS hit by a real bolt of lightning, not hit BY a Lightning! W.T.F....

Add that to falling power lines and it's a wonder how we meat bags survive at all.

No body in that said EV. As said above it was an ICE truck. Also he mentioned he got a blowout right before and was hobbling along to the next exit when it happened so most likely his rim was touching the ground which made his truck a perfect conductor.

Rubber tires do not insulate or protect from a lightning strike. Common misconception, probably because they DO insulate from something like a downed distribution voltage power line. Think about the scale here. The lightning bolt has about 300 million volts at 30,000 amps, enough power to jump a gap thousands or tens of thousands of feet through the open air between the cloud and the ground. a half inch of rubber and a few inches of air gap are not a factor. The lighting bolt was aiming for that spot on the earth and the truck happened to be in the way. It was hitting there one way or another.
