2024 Lariat to 2022 Platinum? Madness or no?

Coming up on my one year anniversary of my '24 Lariat with 9.6K ProPower. Love the truck. I usually go with the top trim of a vehicle, but didn't like the Platinum wheels (and still don't). But... I didn't realize that the Lariat seats are not leather (my bad, I know).

There are a couple of '22 Platinum, low mileage Lightnings with Max Recline option out there. So, I guess my gains would be:

• Better seats - leather, massage, max recline (seems rare to find this option). Not super excited about the lighter seats (I have always gone with dark interiors) - anyone have issue with jeans turning the seats blue?
• Better sound system
• Higher L2 charge rate, although given how much I drive, this really isn't an advantage.

Disadvantages:

• No Heat Pump - although I think the gain here is primarily in cold weather. I typically am taking road trips in warm weather, so maybe not that much of an issue.
• Walk away locking - I thought this would be a nice feature on the '24 - reality is I turned it off.
• Wheels - I would likely get 20" aftermarket wheels or try to trade for Lariat wheels (or swap the wheels before selling my Lariat).
• Not the latest Blue Cruise - but I don't use this feature anyway.

I think this would be about an even $ swap based on what I'm seeing for low mileage vehicles. I have about 9K miles currently. I'm thinking a CPO warranty can be added to any of the ones being sold at Ford dealers. e.g. - hopefully can get a 3 year x 36 month CPO warranty.

Am I missing any features or something I'm not thinking of? Crazy idea? I had been hoping to get into a T-3 next year, but now looks like 2027 at the earliest. I also like the Rivian R1-T, but big $$, no CarPlay and no good way to provide reasonable power back to the house (I have a generator inlet set up now). So... I'll be in this truck for another couple of years at least. I'm at that stage in life where I want a new vehicle every two to three years...

I think you got the major differences. I think HomeLink was deleted in 2024 so you would get that back. WAL and BC 1.4 can be added easily with FORScan (and having the dealer update all modules before purchase).

Definitely confirm the truck has those seats. I have a database of window stickers and 4 of 5 2022 Platinums show deleted multi-contour (massaging) seats with $300 credit. The max-recline was one of the few Platy options and none had that.

There was just one of the five that had the multi-contour and max-recline. I have a friend with a 24 ICE and he loves those seats.

I have looked at the window stickers and several have the delete for massaging seats and a couple show the Max Recline option. I'm presuming one can't put the ICE multi-contour and max-recline seats into the Lightnings? I haven't seen any for sale and I would imagine Ford would charge a pretty penny for them...

Home-Link is an easy add-on for $100. The Audio System can be upgraded for a few hundred dollars depending on how far you want to go. The Massagers in the seats I thought were horrible, in the truck I drove the rollers just STOP when they are turned off. You could have leather seats installed for much less. Take a look at lseat. I have used them and the quality is real nice. They look factory. I did my Audi TT to change the black leather to red for a few CHEAP. (I had an upholstery shop install them)

My '22 Platinum has BlueCruise 1.4 and walk-away locks. If others don't have it, they will.

Massaging seats are THE reason to upgrade to a Platinum. I wouldn't consider one without them if I already had a Lightning. My truck has max-recline but I've never used it, FWIW.

I don't think you are crazy. I went from a 2023 Lariat to a 2024 Platinum only because of the huge incentives, rebates and X-Plan discount earlier this year which got me $25,000 off MSRP. Plus i leased with a zero % money factor.

I got new warranty, multi-contour massaging seats, Blue Cruise 1.4, Walk away lock and a truck with a potential higher resale in a few years over the 23 Lariat. I added a HomeLink visor that I ordered from Fairway Ford online, using FordPass Points. so it didn't cost me any money. I had lots of pass points due to the flipping several new F-450s, other trucks I bought recently and some other points from dealer goodwill for their screw up on a deal. I still have a whopping 233,501 Total Points remaining.

With the 2024 I lost the ability to charge at 80 amps with the higher L2 charge rate, but I never charged at that rate at home with my Tesla Wall Connector anyway.

If I wasn't able to catch the $25k off deal and 0% financing earlier this year I would be looking for a 22 or 23 Platinum as long as I could find one with the multi-contour massaging seats. My wife loves the massaging seats. We already had them on our 24 F-450 Platinum so she knew what she was missing. That is the first thing she turns on when she gets in the truck.

I don't see me ever using the Max Recline seats.

the 22 platinum should have the upgraded B&O stereo which includes 18 speakers, and possibly the onboard scales. As for the colour of the seats you will have to clean them regularly with a good leather cleaner as they get dirty easily. good luck with your decision.

The problem I have is the book value doesn’t reflect these options as I went for an appraisal recently and they only offered me $45K for my truck. Considering how much I still owe, I am in the hole by a lot.

I've never had light colored seats before. Your config and color is exactly what I would love to find. I think I'll have to pass on max-recline - very few like that out there.

The seats are holding up OK with the exception with some blueness on the rear seat where my SO sits when we have a full truck (son is in the back). I just noticed it yesterday, but its not bad. I usually wear blue jeans, and I don't see any transfer in the fronts.

FYI You have a 8 year warranty on the battery (10 years in California)

Can confirm the massage and max recline seats are amazing. The massage seats really helped me on longer drives. Upgraded sound system sounds good.


Haven't noticed any blue jean discoloration. Like was mentioned on this forum, the black felt highlights are bleeding into the white leather. Oh well, it's minor and unnoticeable. My seat foam is starting to sag at the legs a little, so been pondering looking for some used '22 seats from the scrap yard to future proof myself. So far so comfortable.

Thank you for the feedback. Really hard to find the Max Recline so may need to settle for the massage only portion. I didn't buy a Platinum a year ago as I preferred the 20" wheels of the Lariat and I thought the incremental price was crazy. Do you find the ride pretty smooth on the 22"'s?
