Since I’ve had the Lightning (little over a week now) I’ve only charged the truck to 100 percent once but noticed the range was about 270 or so and not the advertised 319 for the extended range battery. Last night I charged to 90 percent and got 249 miles of range that was indicated in the screen. These figures don’t seem right to me. Am I missing something? At 80 percent it’s been just over 200 miles so it feels like something’s not right.

That range you're referring to means almost nothing. It's almost always a focus of those new to the truck but what you really need to pay attention to is your efficiency which dictates the range. Try and keep it around 2.2-2.4 mi/kwh and you'll get very close to, if not better, than the EPA's stated range.

Huh. Ok. And how do you monitor those kWh ranges while driving?

Good question! I'm sure I'm missing other ways to show it but off the top of my head... You can either use the energy 'card' (This Trip) in your center display which includes with distance, time, etc. or you can change the view in the driver's display to show "This Trip."

Either the on dash or on big center screen select "This Trip". That will show the average since you turned the truck on. There is also Trip 1 and Trip 2 which are both since either of those was reset. In my case I have Trip 1 as never reset so the life of the vehicle, and I use trip 2 for trips.

For example the photo below shows that for a 412.9 mile drive a few days ago I averaged 2.2 M/KWH

I will say, these trucks are fun to drive and it's sometimes tough to keep it in the low 2s. I've found gentle acceleration and driving the speed limit are key to keeping the efficiency up. Also, I'm not sure where you're located, but if you get cold weather during the year it will (negatively) affect your efficiency and thus range. It's just part of the experience.

I’m in Southern Calif so we don’t get much extreme cold here but damn does it get hot

EPA of 319 miles would be your range in a perfect world (battery temp optimum/flat terrain/no head wind, 55mph speed...). Which is generally deceiving to new to EV-and particularly lightning owners.
You'll learn by driving the truck that internal combustion cars and EV are indeed very different. EVs are very efficient in city (dense traffic) basically idling vs ICE cars where the efficiency comes from hwy driving at a constant speed. Also aerodynamics plays a big part in that hence some manufacturers adopt a more extreme design. Unfortunately (or to me one of the main reason I chose Ford) our truck does not have that characteristic. The lightning blends amongst ICE trucks. It is heavy as well.
All that to say the GOM display will show you a range based on your driving history. Lots of hwy at speed > 65mph will kill your miles/KWH, hilly terrain or outside temps in the extreme (cold or hot) will do the same. If you alter the current "design" of the truck with a lift kit or bigger wheels your range will suffer too.
So nothing is wrong with your new ride. It is a learning curve. Just enjoy the truck!

ps: generally resetting the driving history on the display will show you the 319 miles once you charge to 100%.

I’ve also had this similar issue. I purchased a 2023 Lightning Lariat ER almost two years ago. When I would charge it to 100% it would show my range up to and even sometimes above 320. I traded that one in for a new 2024 Lightning Lariat ER and the range is similar to what you mentioned. Not sure why the inconsistency.

I went from a 2023 Lightning Lariat ER to a 2024 Lightning Platinum ER. The EPA range on the Platinum is about 10% less that the Lariat 300 vs 320 miles. BUT the GOM reads more than the 10% lower on the 2024. I think the 2024 is more realistic as for as expected range goes. The 2023 Lightning lied more. :)
