I should try it again to see if anything has changed recently. I am using a different EVSE now, and there have been a few software updates.
Set the charge window on the charger instead, that has worked well for me all these years.

All this unnecessary thinking and workarounds that could just be avoided if they ALWAYS stuck to the charging window. They wouldn't even have to do it by default; if they just provided a switch to do so I'd be happy.
This sounds like one of those "you're dammed if you do and also dammed if you don't" situations. On one hand Ford is dammed because an owner who does not want to pay for charging at a higher electric rate.
On the other hand, Ford is dammed when an owner comes out to find that they only have 25% (for example) less charge than they had set because the truck would not charge outside the window.

Which situation is more of a problem? Depends on the situation, but the low charge when ready to leave likely is, so Ford leans toward protecting against that.

That works fine IF your EVSE has that capability. The Mobile Charge Cord does not, and as far as I know, neither does the FCSP.

Exactly the premise of post #14.

My new EVSE could do that. Maybe it's the lesser of the evils. I don't know. The truck would lose the ability to keep the battery warm in cold weather though. I know it doesn't try very hard, but when it gets truly cold it does draw a few kWh every now and then.
