Update: I called the BEV team and they told me to kick rocks. Ford doesn't care on this one. Battery has now degraded to 71% and seemingly falling every week. I will be getting rid of this in the next month. It will be sold and probably auctioned / parted out. Sad end to what was a great truck. Without real options to repair/replace the battery or its modules, these things are doomed.

Did you get a diagnosis and repair quote from a Ford dealer though? I’d be curious to know what the cost is to replace a module when out of warranty.

I really am wondering if we'll see after-market battery packs coming out soon. Especially as new battery tech comes out; it would be nice to just upgrade the batteries in like 5 years or something.

The aftermarket so far is a little disappointing.
100,000 trucks. Failure rate is so low, that no, there won't be aftermarket batteries until, there are for the much higher volume Mach-E...

IMHO, your a bit rash in dumping the truck so soon, have it reevaluated, that one failing module could all that's needed to be changed, obviously a big bite out of your pocket to service it at a FoMoCo service shop, but the remaining modules may be fine for a longer period, the forum has several members with high mileage, not all of them are failing.

If you do decide to get ride of the 2022, are you looking to trade up to a 2025 or going back to ICE?

The BEV team aren’t the folks to help. Your question is above their pay grade. Like most “support” teams, they are there to help with questions you probably know

Have you tried reaching out to anyone on linked in? Some of ford’s EV senior folk are there.

Ford is quoting $6,500 for each module replaced. When I was charging to 87%, they said 1 module needed replacement. Now down to 71, so I assume it is at least 2. $13,000 for 2 modules is not worth it in my opinion, especially since there seems to be no guarantees about the other existing modules.

While these numbers aren’t great to hear, it’s good for all of us to know what the post-warranty costs may be for bad modules. So thanks for sharing. I can’t say for sure what I’d do in your position, but getting rid of the truck would be tough. Maybe I’d look at independent shops to do a battery swap as someone posted earlier.

Not necessarily, it might just be that the original failing module is getting worse and the BMS logic is protecting the system from catastrophic failure, get it checked again and make a decision, fix it or walk away.

I looked into this. I am in Southern California and the options are surprisingly limited. All of the shops that I have found that claim to work on EV batteries will not touch a Ford - They seem to be all Tesla-focused.

I'm curious how long between the 87% and 71%? I have had two modules go bad but they were two years apart. But I only drive 4500 miles/year.

FYI, on my last module replacement in March, dealer said its normally $7500 if out of warranty.

87% started in mid-March of this year. As of this morning, we are down to 70%. It has been fairly gradual since 87%. It was steady at that number for a week or 2. Now it drops 1% every couple of days, it seems.
I drive a lot - I hit 100,000 miles right at the beginning of March and I am going to break 112,000 tomorrow.

I know there's "Martin Rebuilds" on YouTube. I have no idea where he's located. Also, on "Out of Spec Renew" there's a guy that has swapped an ER battery into a SR Lightning. He's in North Carolina now, but you already drive so much, maybe a 3000 mile trip would be nothing to you.

Ford really should've given the Lightning a Rivian tier battery warranty. SR 120k, ER 175k. These were $80 - $100k MSRP vehicles...

Or at least give us the option to buy extended warranty on the high voltage batteries and service. To my knowledge, the extended service plans do not include the high voltage powertrain batteries.
