I'm highly skeptical of the SOH reading. Mine shows 95% but my 100% charge now nets me at best 129kWh (which is 98.5% of stated useable capacity). It is NOT an indicator of useable capacity lost. It is a gauge on how healthy the battery is. I suspect the high temps from the summers here and being parked in full sun all day while at work is my biggest factor.Yes, 100% HvB SOH is basically the truck telling you it thinks the battery is brand new
I would say that the way Ford calculates State of Health for the high voltage battery is very optimistic and shouldn't be compared to other EVs. Like comparing lightning to lightning is fine but comparing a lighting with 100% HvB SOH to a Kia with 95% SOH (or whatever metric Kia uses) is not comparing apples to apples. Ford designed this battery and the battery management system and all of the stats to report very high SOH numbers for a long time and other EV makers do not approach these calculations near as optimistically.
I believe one major way Ford achieves these really high SOH numbers is they exclude the buffer capacity from the SOH calculations. Like the raw capacity of the extended range lighting is actually something like 143 kWh but the truck only sees 131 kWh and the SOH will stay at 100% until the capacity drops below 131 kWh, which is actually already a loss of 8% or so of the raw battery capacity. I think it would have been better if Ford actually let you see the SOH based on the raw battery capacity and that would allow you to compare an actually new battery to one that has lost less than 8% of its overall capacity.
How many km/miles do you have on the truck?
Put it on a 12v battery maintainer with an AGM mode when not being driven and it should last many times the 3yr lifespan.Did a ton of driving on a short road trip yesterday and 12v was up to 92%. Still going to keep and eye on it. At what point would you recommend replacing?
Hard to say, I occasionally got a warning about low power from the 12v, but it's infrequent enough that I dismiss it. I haven't taken the route that some do to charge it while not in use. I drive/charge frequently enough that I'm always over 90%. If it stops reaching 90% SOC, then I'll probably replace it proactively. Thus far, my original battery has made it through 3 summers and half way through it's 4th.
