I have set my target charge at 80%

i plugged-in last night to charge and woke up to 100% charge.

only thing i did different was to manually start the charging instead of the scheduled 10pm charge.

what’s going on?

probably because you 'manually' started a charge, which bypasses any 'setting' you have... is 100% 'not' good?

Isn’t it generally not ideal to charge at 100%? I just charged a 100% last Sunday to test if i the truck can take a charge up to 100%(2 week old truck) and now the 100% charge that i wanted to happen did not go to 100% it stopped at 77% and had to plug in again to get 100%

I guess one would have to ask 'why' you ask the question of "...not ideal to charge at..." ... Ford has never made any such requirement, or prohibition, nor does any battery not love to be 'fully' charged...

as to the question of charging 'timing', when you 'manually' start or stop a charge session, you are manually starting and stopping it - there is then, therefore, no step-in from any settings to stop or change that.
If, though, you want to start a charge BEFORE your normal set time, you can STOP that charge again before the set time, allow the set time to take over, and, yes, it will then stop at the setting's SOC setting.

Ford created this since they didn't want owners to have to go into settings and change or delete a 'normal' everyday setting simple to have a one-time charging session that is different from 'normal'.

If you start a charge manually, you'll have to stop it manually.

It's a little bit of a learning curve with departure settings and charging locations.

Keep searching the forums for more info on how to use the settings.

I get what you are saying OP. Intuitively, the charge limit seems global, therefore if you start charging manually it would sill obey the 80% limit (or whatever you set).

As has been mentioned, it is simply a manual start and stop of charging. Most use it to do a one off 100% charge in anticipation of a longer trip.

Mine has a mind of its own. Last night I plugged in and showed that it will be at 95% at 3:42 am.
This morning it stopped at 85%.
So I unplugged it and restarted it..

Seems like when the battery is below 50%, I never get a 95% charge without it stopping..

I have a juice box that is no longer supported in North America..or is it a Lightning issue?

You guys make life so difficult. By driving electric I’m already saving a bunch. By only charging to 80 percent the big winner is Ford so they don’t have to replace a battery under warranty. I plug in and charge when it is most convenient for me and I charge to 100% every time, because I need 300 miles ready at all times. My two Ford EV’s now have accumulated 110,000 miles and I have noticed no deterioration.

When I first read this I was going to say it’s like my phone. Thing sometimes decided to go for 100% on its own.

Your data would be interesting. Do you have CarScanner and if so can you post mileage and HVB SOH for each EV? Not a lot of 100K vehicles. Or was the 100K for both combined?

Yes, sometimes mine decides I don't need a departure initiation. Just skips it, then next week it works, go figure...

I had a strange one last Friday - and then figured out why the next day (sort of).

At home I have charging scheduled for 2100 - 1600, and a departure time of 0530 on Monday - Friday. Friday evening I got home from work about 1845 and plugged in. The truck started charging. My electric rate is really high from 1600 - 2100 so I manually stopped the charge. Just after 2100 I manually started the charge and set the charge to go to 90%. Just before I went to bed about 2315 I looked and it was almost completed, but the cabin conditioning was on. Confirmed with a temperature sensor that the cabin was warming.

Solution: The next morning I was driving and noticed that the clock was off by about 6 1/2 hours and the auto clock set switch was off. Turned auto set back on and the clock now displayed the correct time. I had the truck in the shop a few days before and am surmising that the time set had been turned off at that time.

Updates will occasionally stop the departure times and also January 1st it resets and won't go.

Yeah, if you hit the "Start" button in the app, that means "charge to 100%". The UI is... not great.
