I've actually changed my tune on EVs lately. Other than family, friends, etc. that I will extol the great value of electric cars to, I don't want them to be mainstream. Takes all of our fun and advantage away from owning them! 😁

Who doesn’t drive coast to coast 6 or 7 times a month?

Not jealous at the price point I paid for the lightning. Even compared to ice vehicles in the truck/large SUV class.

GM has dropped the msrp price due to them selling slowly. Not shocked.

How much are they going to tax freight locomotives since they are hybrids. :teehee:

$3,000 a month  Seems highly unlikely. Is that dollars..... ?
This seems plausible. First, OP is in California. We know how much that gas is running. Second big dodge with poor fuel economy let's say averages most likely 12mpg to 15mpg between miles driven, idling to keep cabin cool, loses due to hauling items etc. The lightning is not really affected that much when idling or even carrying a lot of weight. The Chevy is probably the same.

It's early in the morning so, please, somebody check my math, but taking the average price of gas in CA at $4.50 and a worst case scenario of 12mpg I get about 8000 miles driven per month. That's like 5.5 days straight at 60mph. That doesn't seem super plausible to me but, again, it's early here.

Francisco said it had a range of 440 miles, and I was instantly jealous (I know that is not really what it gets, just like I do not get 320
It actually does get over 440 which is crazy

The app is very adamant about not charging over 80%. At 80% I usually have 400 miles, and close to 260 at 50%, which regularly puts me on target for over 500 mile range, but I haven’t really been on the highway at all, so I expect that to drop on a road trip, in winter, etc. I have a 1200 (round trip) mile road trip planned in October, I’ll charge to 100% before leaving, expect a 20 minute charge on the way down, charge at the hotel to 100%, and 20 minute charge on the way home.

I also noticed the app shows 2.3 mi/kwh since last charge and lifetime, so consistent with my experience in the lightning.

I am more jealous of the charging speed (350kW) than the range. My typical stop on the Lightning is just a few minutes longer than I would prefer, on my EV6 it is more “what, are we done already?” That can be nice.

I think it is a bit more than that with the truck. while not as polarizing as the Cyber Truck, the Silverado EV requires some to get past the aesthetics of the Chevy Avalanche. I also think the market for a $100k truck has gone with inflation across the board. The other is the logistics of delivery and the dealer process.

I ordered mine in March of 2024, the day orders opened. I received confirmation that the truck was manufactured and waiting shipment in early May of last year. After waiting 2 months post manufacturing, I was notified from the sales guy that another truck (with a later VIN) was available. After taking a look and seeing that build with the quality issues (likely a one off), I decided to wait on mine. After another month, I basically decided I was not wanting to wait and really liked the LIghtning ride, interior, looks and frunk better than the Silverado, and I did not need the extra range. Fast forward, was notified by Chevrolet in December of last year that my truck had shipped, a full 7 months after it was manufactured. I had already moved on, but was curious to see what the dealer would sell it for. They initially marked it up 10k, listing for over 100k, then as the months went by, the returned it to MSRP, then finally listing it at 10k off. I stopped watching it in March as it sat on the lot.

Anyway, as Ford, Tesla, Lucid and Rivian have learned, there is a limited market of folks with a budget to buy a "normal" vehicle for more than $80k...

$3000 per month at $5 per gallon (for easy math) is 600 gallons. At 15mpg, that's 9000 miles. With 30 days in a month, that comes to 300 miles a day. Which is exactly what was claimed... Though I suspect Francisco doesn't work 7 days a week. Slight variations in cost, efficiency, or daily distance could account for the discrepancy.

It’s certainly a cool truck, but it’s also not perfect. Between the price, weight, smaller drunk, and lack of CarPlay it’s a non-starter for me.

I’m not sure 9,000 trucks should be normalized.
