I have a 23 platinum lightning. Does it have a feature to keep ac on when my dog is in the truck. I’ve been leaving the truck on with the ac on. I’m not worried about someone getting in truck, my dog is a big shepherd and guards everything

There is no specific dog setting, unfortunately. I think you also need to ensure that the "auto-off in 30 minutes" setting is disabled (and this setting has to be reset from the default=true each time you start the truck, at least that used to be the case).

Take your key with and lock it.

As for the setting, I think it's the top setting under 'vehicle' so it doesn't shut down after 30 minutes. Another option is just to open the Power app (whatever it's called) and turn on power to the bed.

If your windows aren't tinted, you might also want to open the 'MS Paint' app (whatever it's called, I know it's not Microsoft) and just type in 'Dog mode, AC is on, dog is ok' or something like that. Save it for the future.

The app is called Sketch. You’ll find it in the entertainment apps.

You can also use the ProPower Onboard to keep the truck running until it reaches a pre-set minimum range.

Here are the step-by-step instructions for Dog Mode:
  • AC / Heat On: Be sure AC is set to “Auto” and to, say, 73 degrees.
  • Truck On: Leave the Truck Running.
  • Lights to Off: Turn the dial to the left until it’s “off”.
  • Close Mirrors: This is optional.
  • “Power Down” Timer Off: Turn Off the 30 minute “Vehicle Power Down Timer”: Note, if you shut the truck off during this process, you MUST repeat this step. This step is required EVERY time you start the truck.
  • “Settings”
  • “Vehicle”
  • Turn off the first setting, “Vehicle Power Down” – This must be manually toggled to “Off” EVERY time (because when the car is shut off, this immediately “resets” to “Timer On”.)
  • Manual Cardboard Sign: I put a “Dog Mode” sign over the display. And I’ve pasted these instructions to the back of the sign.
  • Open Door: Dash will say, “Truck is Running.” Ignore or press “OK”.
  • Exit: You can take the Remote OR you can leave the Remote in truck.
  • Lock Truck: Lock the truck by simultaneously pressing the “9-0” and “7-8” buttons on the “Keyless Entry Keypad” (on the door jam.) Confirm truck is locked by confirming the traditional door lock “knobs” are down after closing all doors. If the truck double chirps, it is NOT locked.
  • Confirm Running: Confirm the truck is still running. (The dashboard should look like it does when you are driving.)

I've seen this topic come up many times here and in the Mach E forum. I am not sure if I have mentioned this before, but there is a setting in the APIM config called "Comfort Pet" which is disabled from factory. Somebody with FORScan would need to turn this on, look through the touchscreen for a new button and turn it on and thoroughly test what this does before trusting it.

There's an alternative to this part:

  • Turn off the first setting, “Vehicle Power Down” – This must be manually toggled to “Off” EVERY time (because when the car is shut off, this immediately “resets” to “Timer On”.)
You can turn on ProPower Onboard. This automatically replaces the Vehicle Power Down with a minimum battery %SOC that corresponds to the range you set.

That’s a great idea on the screen message and I did the same thing. My question is: is there a way to lock the passenger side window so our golden retriever doesn’t accidentally roll the window all the way down with his paw? I’ve been taping a thin piece of wood over the control, but hope there’s a better solution.

No, you cannot lock the passenger window, just the rear windows.

I'm lucky in that my lab has never been inclined to go into the front seat. He's been trained since I got him at 8 weeks old to never jump on furniture. I guess he thinks the front seat is furniture!

I'm ignorant about this option. Can you advise the advantage of going the "ProPower Onboard" route vs. the "Vehicle Power Down" route? Thanks.

If I have a dog that I think might go in the front, I move the seats forward and recline them all the way forward so there's no front seat to go into.

Luckily my own dog seems content to stay in the back. Knock on wood.

But yeah. We've been rolling our eyes for years at the lack of a proper dog mode that disables all the window switches and seat heaters.

I'm always confounded by this desire to have a dog mode, which is driven by people taking their dogs on errands.

I grew up with two golden retrievers. They went in the car when we went on a vacation to someplace with them (like for the summer). They also went in the car to the vet, or to the boarder if we were going someplace without them. I've never understood people taking their dog everywhere, but whatever floats your boat.

But, having a loose dog in the car is dangerous for them, and for you. They should be properly harnessed.
