F150 Lightning Extended Warranty from Ford Protect at $50 Over Cost!

Question for anyone who has bought the extended warranty.

Doesn't Ford cover us Bumper to Bumper 3 yr / 36k? And of course much longer coverage on the battery. Just confirming if I am putting ~12k/yr on the vehicle and it's new, then I am paying today for a policy I wouldn't even use for at least 3 years?


Also question to anyone who has put 25k or more on their Lightning - Any new issues developing that make the purchase of a EW seem like a no brainer?

Correct. Purchasing a 10 year plan adds 7 years to your warranty. Depending on the plan, you can get extra benefits inside the original period.

Took my Lightning in for recall work and was told the EW does not cover rentals or loaner for recalls. Seems like every time I need any service or work done no loaners or rentals are covered.

There are 4 different ESPs. I believe PremiumCare does provide loaner/rental.

I have premium care. They flat out refused, said Recalls not covered. Even spoke with the service manager and got nowhere. I did get a free Lyft ride home.

I was told that if a loaner is not available, we can make a claim with Ford to get reimbursed for a rental.

Here is what my contract says. Definitely covers recalls and CSPs. But it is a reimbursement and not a guaranteed loaner. So you file a claim. I would hope if it's a rental from the dealer then they handle it. Note that by default Day 1 is not covered, the vehicle must be kept overnight, then coverage begins. You can pay more to have Day 1 covered.

6B.1. RENTAL CAR REIMBURSEMENT: For a covered Failure under this Agreement; the Manufacturer’s Limited Warranty; or a Ford Motor Company Powertrain, Safety, Emissions coverage or recall/customer satisfaction program, You may be eligible for reimbursement of receipted expenses for a rental car or for alternate public transportation (including but not limited to Uber, Lyft, or other modes of public transportation). If you rent a vehicle, it must be from a Ford or Lincoln dealership or other commercial agency. If You meet all eligibility requirements set forth herein, We will reimburse You for vehicle rental charges or alternate public transportation costs You actually incur up to $60 per day (including tax) ($72 per day on Aviator, MKT, Navigator) for up to 10 days (3 days for RentalCARE coverage plans) or until the repair is complete, whichever occurs first. Rental Car Reimbursement starts when the Vehicle is delivered to the Selling Dealer or other Ford Motor Company franchised dealer for service and the vehicle is inoperable or continued operation would result in additional damage to the vehicle. Rental Car Reimbursement ends when the repair is completed.
2. FIRST DAY RENTAL DELETE (Mechanical) - If You elect the First Day Rental Delete Option, an
additional eligibility term for Rental Car Reimbursement is the Vehicle must be kept overnight by
the repair facility because it was inoperable or would become inoperable due
to continued operation.

You've saved a lot of us that didn't ultimately go with your warranty as well. I had your cost table so when they asked me what price I would pay for their warranty, I gave them yours. They went back and forth a ton but ultimately caved to your prices. What you're doing is great for all consumers, and I really appreciate you for it.
