All Platinum grilles chip, that is a whole other level!

Paint "defects" are covered under the 3/36 warranty. The chips from road debris that all Platinums get is not covered. What @Canada_Moose posted and @Pottsie describe is absolutely covered.

When you guys talk to the dealership, please ask them about a Technical Service Bulletin (TSP) addressing Lightning Platinum grille paint and get a copy of it if it exists. Pointing to a specific TSP might help the rest of us get new grilles too.

Hey Forum:

I have a two-part question here.

Part 1 - As shown in the photos, the paint or film on the front grille of my Lightning is peeling/flaking off. Any ideas why this is happening? I do off-road the truck as my summer cabin is in the backwoods in the middle of nowhere. I also do just standard car washes when the truck gets very dirty, nothing fancy. So, why is it flaking or peeling? Is this a potential defect at the manufacturing level?

Part 2 - UPGRADES! What are some good upgrades or accessories I should put on my Lightning to make the best EV truck on the market even better. Would love some insights from fellow Lightning owners to make the ride better and the truck look better.

Thanks, Lightning family.

Go get gloss black vinyl wrap. I did and I have had zero issues, looks brand new 2 1/2 years later and 45,000 miles.

It's a known issue with the Platinum grill. That was one of the reasons I went with Lariat 511. Anything that touches it at any kind of speed will chip it.

Yeah same paint peeling on mine. Took it to the dealership and they’ve ordered me a new one under warranty although if it’s replaced with a similar one it will only happen again. Been waiting several weeks - guess there’s a bunch on order….
Ford really needs to put a proper fix to this because it really makes the truck look cheap - so noticeable for every passerby.
kind of embarrassing after all the money spent on this truck.
would be happy if they just fave me a Lariat grille so it won’t happen again.

It would be a long hard process, but I would suggest patties use a ppf to protect it.

I had same thing happen to my lower grill and I'm in Sunny no salt southern California... I just painted it with black bedliner paint and you cant even tell... but the grill is a different story I'd definitely have the dealer replace that.

Fun fact: platinum is a relatively soft metal which is why it makes sense that Ford names it's most comfy vehicles "Platinum".

I better not hear anyone else call my truck soft though. It's tough...TOUGH!

Haha yes. But also if you’re buying a ring platinum is stronger than gold. All relative. Your truck is stronger than the gold trim…. ?

(But can it rope a cow lariat style ?)

Does anyone have a link to the TBS? My front grill is also flaking after ~22k miles and the dealership is saying it's normal wear and tear.

Its funny how people rail against the CT for issues but then when reports come out about Lighting issues people resort to comments like yours. Why even go there? Nobody said anything about the CT.

VERY TRUE. Becomes just brand or model loyalty at that point.
