When I first heard of Donut Labs solid state battery, and learned about the specs, I said it must be an ultra capacitor. Capacitors are the only devices that can possibly meet the stated specs. Capacitor packs have been used in buses for 10 years in China's cities and other cities around the world. In the past, their charge density was too low to be used in automobiles. The packs were too big.

Capacitors have always been considered the ultimate energy storage device for electric vehicles. The limit was finding the perfect dielectric and plate material. Barium titanate has been considered, and a form of graphene as well. I'm gonna bet that Donut Labs and their partner have figured it out. If so, congratulations. The world will change as a result. Once the materials are revealed, everyone will copy it. Capacitors are easy to make. Thank you Donut Labs. You'll receive the Nobel Prize for this innovation.

Existing Lightnings should be able to be upgraded with one of their custom battery packs, as well as every other EV.

It's obvious Donut Labs will license other companies to make these batteries.

It's a good time to be alive if all pans out.

It's gonna be bad for the guys holding the investments in anything Lithium and Sodium.

I drank the koolaid on the day on the announcement, but I’m more skeptical now.

First, NO third party had the Donut Lab SSB in their hands for independent testing.

Second, there are ZERO patients on this technology which is a massive red flag.

Third, the two companies mentioned shipping this product in Q1 have common ownership with Donut Labs……

Four, if what was shown in the videos lithium the why are they running at 4V?

My BS-o-meter is in the red here. I so want this to be true, but I don’t think that it is.
Some think they are using super capacitors. Would explain the charge.speed etc,.but they have their own problems.

You have a link to it? I haven't seen anything with any actual technical details.
The 4V is from their CES keynote. I believe that video was linked by the OP.

To be clear the V4 is from a clip of the “battery” while it was connected to a multimeter.

I've already expressed my skepticism regarding it but I skimmed the video and roughly 0.9 kwh does track for a solid state battery of that size.

I'm 100% with you on this.

I only skimmed the video, so I don't know if they claim it's their creation. Their name is all over it so the implication is certainly there, but they could be licensing the tech. Also with Finnish patents there appears to be an 18 month lag between filing and publishing.

Suspect, but not uncommon either. I couldn't find much in this space. Didn't help that another company shares the name.

Not exactly sure what you're asking. It doesn't have to use lithium, but solid state batteries often use lithium currently.

My biggest question is on the Verge, 102? kw charging rate at 10 minutes of charging time is a 17 kwh battery, I swear I saw it carrying a 33 kwh somewhere. I guess if it's only charging to 80% and they are using a smaller pack it'd make sense. But then aren't you supposed to be able to fast charge to 100% in 5 minutes?? Maybe they have to buck down the voltage and need time to cool it, it's unlikely there are 100 of those cells to make up a 400v pack. Anyway that's my thoughts on what i saw.

There are two Verge packs.

Anyone look at the charging graph, no doubt it's fast, but 350 seconds is almost 6 minutes, and to 90% SoC. It also doesn't show the actual charging rate or battery size. Solid state is no doubt the future but the devil is in the details.
All sounds too good to be true but I think the one thing missing is the cost and when can they product in volume.

I tried to look them up when I first heard about this a day or two ago and I do not believe they are publicly traded, at least not here! There is no investor relations section or anything to do with investors on their website. I own many stocks, but I watch many many many stocks!
They are not public. Donut is a subsidiary of Verge which is also privately held.
